Postponement of the EU supply chain law

AntragpassedSubmitted: April 3, 2025Vote: April 3, 2025
Essential content

The European Parliament has voted to postpone the EU supply chain law. The directive from Parliament and Council stipulates that member states (until 2027) and companies (until 2028) will have one year more time for implementation. The Supply Chain Act provides for stricter rules for compliance with human rights and respect for environmental protection along the entire supply chain, from production to the end consumer. In addition, changes to the guidelines on corporate sustainability reporting (so-called CSRD guidelines) were voted on. Reporting obligations should only apply to companies with an average of 1,000 employees and either a turnover of over 50 million euros or a balance sheet total of over 25 million euros. For some companies, the reporting requirement will be postponed for two years. The softening was justified by the tense economic situation and increased energy prices due to the Russian war of aggression. Further easing is expected to follow in the coming months. Attention: The voting results shown on the right only reflect the voting behavior of the 95 German EU MPs and not that of all 720 EU MPs. Overall, the motion for a resolution was adopted with 531 votes in favour, 69 against and 17 abstentions. Of the German MEPs, 72 voted for and four against. There were seven abstentions.
