AI and economy fuel stress for 40% of DSE candidates: Hong Kong youth group poll

Fewer Hong Kong university entrance exam candidates reported high stress levels compared with last year, but nearly 40 per cent cited artificial intelligence (AI) and the economic outlook as their top sources of stress, a survey has found. Releasing the findings of its “Further Education Planning Survey” on Thursday, the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups attributed the pressure to concerns that AI would increasingly replace entry-level jobs. The poll surveyed 1,241 secondary students,...

Chinese AI labs are increasingly pursuing proprietary chips, mirroring a global trend towards software-hardware integration, but industry insiders and analysts warn that the strategy carries risk due to the massive upfront investments required. “The core motivation for choosing in-house chips lies in pursuing [greater] hardware-software synergy and lowering long-term operating costs,” said Arisa Liu, chief director and research fellow at Taiwan Industry Economics Services. South Korea set to power US fight for naval dominance amid rising geopolitical tensions

The United States is turning to South Korea’s world-leading shipbuilding industry to refresh its ageing naval fleet, a move set to expand the bilateral alliance beyond security into defence manufacturing, technology and industrial production. The approach reflects Washington’s efforts to address long-standing problems in its own industry, according to analysts – chronic construction delays, cost overruns, shortages of skilled workers and supply chain constraints among them. It also signals a...

Hormuz Tanker Traffic Grinds to a Halt After U.S.-Iran Escalation

What was a flood of oil and gas leaving the Strait of Hormuz two weeks ago has now ground to a halt as the United States and Iran began firing missiles again and President Trump declared the ceasefire over, calling the Iranian leadership “scum”, “liars”, and “cheats”. Bloomberg reports that, earlier today, there was only one tanker moving along the waterway, and it was a sanctioned very large crude carrier that passed along the Iran-controlled route along with an Iranian container ship. Income tax should be abolished.

I think it is a fundamental flaw in our tax system that people already have to pay income tax even though they are still far from living financially without worries. In my opinion, the basic tax allowance should therefore be increased to at least 50,000 euros per year or income tax should even be abolished completely. Anyone who earns less than 50,000 euros should be allowed to keep all of their work. Only beyond this should the state receive income
