Market pumpers are in overdrive

It is certainly interesting to see people fly out of the woodwork to assure everyone with all the detailed explanations of why the market went down a few measly percent, to just keep buying and it will be all time high again next week. And maybe it will be. Or we could see further declines of 5, 10, 15, 20% or more in the coming months. That’s not “bad”, if anything it’s healthy for investors. It’s just that those that already bought higher are now upset. Forest fires have cleared overcrowded fo

How to get rid of your father's maintenance obligation in the event of a serious breach of parental duties

Hello dear Carbonajünger, Short explanation of my situation: I am 23 years old, grew up in Germany, am a German citizen and am studying medicine in Austria. So it is very likely that (with inflation) I will have a gross income of >100,000€/year in 10 years. In addition, there is already discussion about completely removing or lowering this limit so that pensions can be increased again. Now my father was an absolute disaster, had everything

Financed car turns out to be a repair trap - what next? (Ford Focus MK4, 156,000 km)

Hello, I need your advice. In 2025 I financed a Ford Focus MK4 1.5 EcoBlue automatic (EZ 12/2020, 136,000 km) from a dealer for 12,000 euros plus interest. Unfortunately, this purchase later turned out to be a mistake. After an accident in which a tension belt from a vehicle in front damaged my car, the expert found that the previous damage had clearly been repaired. At the time of purchase and in the purchase contract there was only mention of a small repainting

Direct debit chargeback

As is well known, you can simply reverse a SPEA direct debit for up to 8 weeks without giving any reason. But what happens when the account that was debited doesn't have enough funds? So the money is now elsewhere. Does one of the banks involved have to step in first? Are there any mechanisms that initially block the money in the event of a chargeback? Are there any bank employees here who have experience with this? submitted by /u/Educational_Bee_62

Counterparty risk assumptions

I'm a big believer in value investing and Warren Buffett's ideas of buying companies for less than what they're worth. But here's the part that I could never wrap my head around... Let's say a company's "intrinsic value" is $200 per share, but the stock price is $100/share. Ok, so that's a good buy then, you're buying "a dollar for fifty cents", as Buffett puts it. But, in order to make money, the PRICE needs to go up, because you need to sell it. You only own a tiny fraction of the company, so

Is it reasonable/normal to verify a call from a money transfer service before discussing account information by asking to either switch to email or by me going and calling the official number to verify the request?

For example, would it be normal to either: Ask if the matter can be handled by email instead, or End the call and contact the company myself using the official customer service number to verify that the request is genuine. Would customer service representatives generally see this as a normal security precaution, or would it be viewed as unusual or problematic? submitted by /u/JohanKasper [link] [comments]

In D-Day speech, Hegseth urges Europe to counter ‘invasion’ of migrants

US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth on Saturday urged Europe to counter what he termed an “invasion” of its coastline by migration, as he marked the 82nd anniversary of the World War II D-Day landings in northern France. Hegseth also called on European countries to do more to contribute to their defence, in a speech at the American military cemetery in Colleville-sur-mer in Normandy. He was however conspicuously set to skip the main international ceremony marking the anniversary of the landings,..

Patrick Boyle on the New Zealand housing Bubble and Burst

[edit: patrick boyle is currently a professor at a university in the UK. He used to be a trader, his youtube channel is quite entertaining] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qROG2uXPChY Patrick Boyle uses New Zealand’s housing bust as the warning example here. At the peak, an Auckland “dunger” sold for NZ$1.81m, and average Auckland homes were around 35x median income. Since then, prices have dropped hard, recent buyers are stuck in negative equity, and a bunch of construction firms have gone unde

What are your thoughts on AI bubble, is it real or not?

- What is your opinion on the AI bubble? - If AI is really a bubble, why hasn't it burst already, especially after many of the industry's challenges and limitations became widely known? - Why does the market continue to invest so heavily in it? -:Do you think these massive investments will ultimately be justified? - For example, data centers may remain useful for many years, but what about the hardware and equipment inside them? - Will they generate enough profit before they need to be replaced
