US at 250: has Europe learned to survive Trump’s America?

In a public park a stone’s throw from the European Commission buildings in Brussels late last month, beer flowed, meat grilled and country music blared as revellers marked the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States. The fallout from the event, however, provided signs – if they were needed – that all is not well in America’s relations with its erstwhile European allies. Just three of the EU’s 27 commissioners and none of its leaders showed up, while authorities were reportedly...

The hurricane rebuild trade doesn't exist at season open. I tested whether it lives after actual landfalls instead. My most significant result died under robustness checks, which turned out to be the interesting part.

a couple weeks ago I tested the classic "buy Home Depot and Lowe's before hurricane season" trade: event study around June 1 season open, 16 years of data. result: the trade loses, roughly -2 to -3% vs the market, and the drift starts about 8 days before the season even opens. posted it to r/stocks post and the pushback was fair: June 1 is a calendar story, not an event. the real test is actual landfalls, with severity and geography separated. so I built it. setup: 23 US mainland hurricane landf

'The budget for 2027 has been approved by the Federal Cabinet. Next year's budget calls for spending of 555.4 billion euros and new debt of 118.7 billion euros - both more than initially planned. Trump to Meet Zelenskyy at NATO Summit as Ukraine War Diplomacy Resumes

US President Donald Trump will meet Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the sidelines of this week's NATO summit in Ankara, the White House announced on July 5, as Washington seeks to revive stalled diplomacy over Russia's war while pressing Europe to take greater responsibility for the continent's defense. The announcement came a day after Trump held separate telephone conversations with Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin, underscoring the administration's effort to position its

EU should think twice before weaponising its market against China

For much of the post-Cold-War era, the European Union understood economic interdependence as a source of mutual prosperity. Open markets, free trade and multilateral rules were regarded not merely as economic principles but as the foundations of European normative influence. That assumption is rapidly giving way to a different logic. In an era of intensifying geopolitical rivalry, Brussels increasingly views trade, investment and technology as the power instruments of strategic competition. The.

Company pension

Hello, I'm interested (especially among younger people) because it's supposed to be a "pillar" in old age and I hear shockingly little about it. Who has a >notable< company pension in prospect? And do you pay anything into it yourself? Is it subsidized or does the AG pay alone? I mean something that goes beyond these ridiculous alibi contracts where a few hundred euros a year are badly buttered up somewhere. Please state your age and industry. I am a lower management in retail myself

Germany Weathers Energy Crisis With Growing Dependence on American LNG

The share of LNG imports of Germany’s total gas supply rose to 12% in the first half of the year, up from 10% a year earlier, despite the shock supply loss from the Middle East due to the closed Strait of Hormuz, according to data by the German regulator. Bundesnetzagentur, the Federal Network Agency, noted that LNG supply from the LNG import ports on the North Sea and Baltic Sea increased even during the Iran war as Europe’s biggest economy relied on more supply from the United States. LNG supp
