Europe’s Energy Transition Stalls as Heat Wave Exposes the Cost of Inaction

London Climate Action Week took place during an intense heat wave last week, causing some of the planned events to be cancelled and calling extra attention to the urgency of the summit’s cause. One of the biggest takeaways of the event, underscored by the weather, is that Europe has missed critical opportunities to catalyze the clean energy transition and mitigate greenhouse gas emissions. A number of bankers present at the London Climate Action Week were in agreement that “EU authorities risk c

China signals openness to reducing gaping EU trade surplus as Brussels toughens stance

China told the European Union that it is open to exploring ways to cut its massive trade surplus with the bloc during talks in Brussels this week, according to multiple people briefed on the discussion. Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao signalled to EU trade chief Maros Sefcovic that China was willing to consider purchase agreements covering European goods. The discussions touched on lowering tariffs on EU-made goods, in a rare sign that China recognises that its billion-euro a day trade...

Unexpected effect of tax reform

To be honest, I have become very dissatisfied with politics in the last few months and have not read any details of all the resolutions. As an upwardly mobile person who comes from the lower socioeconomic class, I am usually at a clear disadvantage with current politics anyway. I was even more surprised at the result that, as a top earner, I would actually pay minimally less income tax next year. So it's not like anything gets stuck thanks to rising social security contributions and perspective

Robinhood 5% return on cash in Europe

I opened an account with them a couple months ago, thinking of taking advantage of the 5% interest on cash they were giving for a limited time (it was supposed to be until yesterday) Now, to my surprise, they have extended it indefinitely. Seems like a great place to have emergency money parked. It’s protected up to 22000€ and transfers are instant (I have tried them myself). Is this a too good to be true thing or you guys are also using it to squeeze a little extra from your emergency cash? sub

Intel, AI, neuromorphic computing, and you

In 15-20 years, Intel will likely be the highest valued company in the world. Hear me out 1) AI isn't going anywhere. It is being widely adopted in many industries and is only improving in sophistication and application areas. This trend will only continue. We have been here before with the Internet, I remember the skepticism about the Internet being a fad and having little use for regular people very well 2) AI data centers are unsustainable. We all know this. The problem is that our convention

Europe Isn't Anti-Air Conditioning. It's Just Calling It Heat Pumps

Europe Isn't Anti-Air Conditioning. It's Just Calling It Something Else. The recent heatwaves across Europe have reignited a familiar debate in parts of the American media. Articles in publications including The Washington Post and The New York Times have questioned why Europe continues to lag behind the United States in air conditioning, with some suggesting that Europeans remain culturally reluctant to embrace cooling or that governments have actively discouraged its deployment. As temperature

What’s currently the cheapest way to cash out USDC/USDT to EUR via SEPA in Europe?

I’m based in Germany and I’m looking for the lowest-cost way to convert USDC (or USDT) into EUR and withdraw it via SEPA. My priority is the lowest total effective cost (trading fees + spreads + withdrawal fees), not necessarily the simplest workflow. What setup do you currently use? Kraken Pro? Monerium? ARQ? Coinbase? Something else? Ideally I’d like to compare how many EUR you actually receive for every €1,000 worth of USDC. Thank you in advance submitted by /u/Fun-Magician-7503 [link] [comme

India Fast-Tracks State Company Stake Sales to Cover Oil Shock Costs

India is accelerating a plan to sell stakes in major state-held companies as it looks to raise billions of U.S. dollars to plug the gap left by the oil shock from the Strait of Hormuz closure. The Indian government has identified eight state-owned companies in which it would seek stake sales in the coming months, including in major insurers and banks, sources with knowledge of the plan told Bloomberg on Thursday. The proceeds from the stake sales could be worth $1 billion each for some of the bi

SaaS sector fell below market valuation for the first time on record. Breaking down which names are actually cheap vs. just lower priced.

Hi r/investing, I'm the GM of the stock research side at Obermatt, a Swiss investment research firm that ranks stocks across 60+ markets on four factors (Value, Growth, Safety, Sentiment) relative to industry peers. Standard disclosure: this is our own research, sharing it here because I think the framework is useful for this community, not to sell anything. The AI-driven selloff pushed the entire SaaS sector below the broad market on forward earnings for the first time on record. That's a meani

Japanese Banks Commit $496 Million to India's Power Grid Expansion

Japanese banks are set to provide financing of up to the equivalent of $496 million for a key grid transmission project in India under a new Asian framework on energy cooperation, Nikkei Asia reported on Thursday. Japan's Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corp (SMBC), Kansai Mirai Bank, and the state-backed Japan Bank of International Cooperation (JBIC), are lining up for up to 80 billion yen, or $496 million in current exchange rates, in syndicated financing for a high-voltage direct current (HDVC) trans
