More rights for passengers in the EU
The European Parliament has approved new rules for airline passengers. The aim of the reform is to better protect travelers in the event of delays, flight cancellations and other problems. The new regulations stipulate, among other things, that children under 14 can sit next to their companion free of charge. In addition, airlines will be required to process refunds more quickly in the event of flight cancellations or cancellations. In the future, passengers should also be better informed about their rights and receive support more easily if flights are delayed or canceled. In addition, airlines will not be allowed to charge extra for a small personal item such as a backpack or handbag, and flight prices will in future have to be stated more transparently from the start of the booking. Attention: The voting results shown on the right only reflect the voting behavior of the German MEPs and not that of all 720 MEPs. The new rules were adopted with a large majority of 646 votes in favor to 12 against, with three abstentions. 89 of the German MEPs voted in favor. Sibylle Berg (Die PARTEI) voted against, Martin Sonneborn (THE PARTEI) abstained.
