White paper on the future of European defense
The EU Parliament has adopted a resolution on a planned "white paper" on the future of European defense. The white paper announced by the European Commission and the European External Action Service is due to be presented in mid-March and will formulate the framework conditions for greater integration of defense policy within the EU. It is intended to address key aspects such as the Union's defense capability, industrial competitiveness and military investment needs. The aim is to create a strategic basis for the EU's security and defense policy orientation and to improve its ability to respond to threats. Attention: The voting results shown on the right only reflect the voting behavior of the 96 German MEPs and not that of all 720 MEPs. The resolution was adopted overall with 419 yes votes to 204 no votes and 46 abstentions. Of the German MEPs, 60 voted for and 25 against. There were three abstentions.
