Protect people and agriculture from genetic engineering
The Alliance 90/The Greens parliamentary group has submitted an urgent motion for a roll-call vote in the Bavarian state parliament. The state government should be asked by the state parliament to take a series of measures that are intended to restrict the use of genetic engineering and make it transparent. For example, all products in the value chain without exception should be provided with mandatory labeling if they were produced using genetic engineering methods. It is important to prevent damage and competitive advantages for farmers and to secure central protective measures such as risk assessment, environmental monitoring and liability rules with new genetic engineering methods. In Bavaria, as stated in the coalition agreement, GMO-free cultivation should take place and the right to GMO-freedom should be defended. The application was preceded by an initiative at EU level that envisages the deregulation of new genetic engineering processes. The application was rejected with 76 votes against. 36 MPs from the SPD and Alliance 90/The Greens factions voted yes. There were 23 abstentions from the AfD parliamentary group.
