Motion of no confidence against the EU Commission (PfE group)
On Thursday, the European Parliament voted on a motion of no confidence against the European Commission under President Ursula von der Leyen. In addition to the MPs from the Left, the five German MPs from the Sahra Wagenknecht alliance are also among the signatories. A variety of allegations are made in the application. It is criticized that in view of the humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip, too little pressure is being put on the Israeli government and that, as in the case of Russia, it is not responding with drastic sanctions. MEPs also reject the EU's customs agreement with the USA because it harms European interests. The signing of the Mercosur trade agreement with South American countries is also criticized because the objections of member states were ignored. The agreement endangers European agriculture, which will be exposed to unfair competition. The application certifies that the EU Commission is inadequately combating the climate crisis and social crises. There is a high hurdle for the adoption of a motion of no confidence: it requires the approval of at least two thirds of the votes cast and the majority of the members of Parliament. If the application were accepted, the commission would have to resign as a unit. Another motion of no confidence, initiated by the extreme right-wing PfE faction, was also rejected. Attention: The voting results shown on the right only reflect the voting behavior of the 96 German MEPs and not that of all 720 MEPs. The motion of censure was rejected overall with 383 votes against, 133 in favor and 78 abstentions. Of the German MEPs, 58 voted against and 26 for. There were no abstentions.
