Commission and High Representative propose new sanctions regime to counter threats from migrant smuggling, human trafficking, and other forms of organised crime

European Commission Press release Brussels, 09 Jul 2026 Today, the European Commission and the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, proposed a new EU sanctions regime to tackle threats posed by several forms of organised crime, including migrant smuggling, trafficking in human beings, firearms and illicit drugs and money laundering.
