Learning the basics and start investing

Hello. I am a 17 year old who will be a junior at uc davis in the fall. I need to become financially independent as soon as I turn 18 because of a home situation and I know investing when done right significantly increases your NW. I was wondering if anyone could give me books/articles/pieces of advice so i can start investing? I have no money and can't afford to lose a lot. I know with investing you need to be prepared to lose so I dont want to put too much in. submitted by /u/Iamdogwater [link

Are you covered with an ETF savings plan?

Hello dear community, probably a stupid question, but if, according to an online calculator, I invest €400/month in an ETF pump for 40 years, I'll have several million by the time I'm 65. After that I can easily retire and chill out like a king. 4000€ living costs x 12 months x 20 years are only 960,000€. There's easily a million left over and if I die before then... my children will just get it and let it continue. Am I missing something in my youthful naivety? Can it be that simple?

Why the Philippines walks a delicate balance as Asean chair

When Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jnr accepted the Asean gavel from Malaysian counterpart Anwar Ibrahim in Kuala Lumpur last October, the script was already written: a packed agenda, South China Sea diplomacy in the spotlight and a regional digital economy deal to clinch. Then the world changed. On February 28, US and Israeli forces struck Iran. The Strait of Hormuz, an artery of global shipping through which 98 per cent of the Philippines’ crude oil imports travel, became a war zone...

A former Southern California mayor pleaded guilty on Friday to acting as an illegal agent of the Chinese government. Eileen Wang, who stepped down as the mayor of Arcadia earlier this month, was charged in April with one count of acting in the US as an illegal agent of a foreign government. She pleaded guilty to doing the bidding of Chinese officials by sharing articles favourable to Beijing, without prior notification to the US government as required by law. The 56-year-old was elected in...
