Learning the basics and start investing

Hello. I am a 17 year old who will be a junior at uc davis in the fall. I need to become financially independent as soon as I turn 18 because of a home situation and I know investing when done right significantly increases your NW. I was wondering if anyone could give me books/articles/pieces of advice so i can start investing? I have no money and can't afford to lose a lot.
