AI to help Hong Kong bookworms find a whole new world of words

Hong Kong’s annual book fair returns in July with a renewed focus on cultural exploration, tourism and the role of AI in reading, with the organiser hoping to break last year’s visitor turnout. The Trade Development Council (TDC) said on Tuesday that the 36th Hong Kong Book Fair would be themed on “Reading the World: Cultural Legacy | Joyful Journeys,” running from July 15 to 21 at the Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai. “Through this theme, we hope to encourage residents to read works

60% of Hong Kong schools using AI for teaching and admin work, survey finds

About 60 per cent of surveyed Hong Kong schools are using artificial intelligence (AI) for teaching and administrative work, with the researchers behind the poll calling for educators to improve their knowledge of the technology so they can better guide students. The Education University of Hong Kong shared its findings on Tuesday, with the survey showing about 20 per cent of primary and secondary schools were actively exploring the use of AI in teaching, learning and administrative...

One Glitch Away From a Crash - The Extreme Volatility of Today’s Trillion-Dollar Tech Giants

The stock market faces a new era of unprecedented volatility as multi-trillion-dollar tech titans like SpaceX, OpenAI, and Anthropic continue to reshape major indices without traditional earnings to anchor their valuations. Lacking steady cash flows or price-to-earnings ratios to justify their pricing, these stocks trade entirely on future narratives and hyper growth expectations. The broader market is becoming hyper sensitive to headline shocks; a single technical glitch, rocket failure, or AI

The I Ching, Leibniz and AI: how old China-West links shaped modern science

The advent of artificial intelligence (AI) appears sudden and revolutionary, yet its origins stretch deep into history, revealing a profound and forgotten intellectual exchange between China and the West. Long before Alan Turing, Claude Shannon, or even Charles Babbage and Ada Lovelace, there was Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz – the German polymath born exactly 380 years ago next week. Among his monumental contributions to science is the binary numeral system, which serves as the bedrock of modern...

Why South Korea’s AI chip boom is a ‘serious concern’ for its economy

South Korea’s AI-driven semiconductor boom has sent exports, corporate profits and stock prices to record highs, but a senior policymaker has warned that the windfall could fuel property speculation and deepen inequality if its gains remain narrowly concentrated. “Looking solely at the numbers, it is something to cheer about. However, strangely, a corner of my heart feels heavy,” Kim Yong-beom, chief of the Presidential Policy Office and one of South Korea’s most senior economic policymakers,...

How Many Barrels of Oil Do AI Data Centers Consume on a Daily Basis?

Back in 2017, we did the math to figure out how much oil it takes to mine a single Bitcoin. The answer then was about 20 barrels of oil equivalent per coin. Today it's closer to 500. The Bitcoin network now draws somewhere between 138 and 175 terawatt-hours a year, depending on whose model you trust… Split across the roughly 164,000 coins minted annually since the last halving, that lands at around 500 barrels of oil equivalent at today’s prices per Bitcoin, and past 600 on the higher estimates.

74x volume spike on TSX-V today – name change to “AI” + paid promo (we passed)

Hey r/investing Quick case study from today’s market action on the TSX-V. (Canadian venture market, my niche specialty) One micro-cap name (**MIVO.V – now Miivo AI*\) saw its volume explode ***74x**** its average. The move? +3.9% on the day. **What drove it?*\* A name change riding the AI theme, combined with newly announced investor relations and marketing deals (plus an earlier acquisition). No drill result. No major contract. No earnings beat. This is a classic example of promotion-driven vol

$LTRN reminding investors about BIO2026 participation tomorrow!

Lantern Pharma just posted a reminder that CEO Panna Sharma will participate in tomorrow’s BIO2026 executive roundtable hosted by Polsinelli. What caught my attention is that management is actively promoting the event instead of quietly attending. At a $50M market cap, Lantern is trying to position itself at the intersection of: Precision oncology AI-driven drug development RADR / withZeta Not suggesting news is coming. But if management believes these platforms are meaningful value drivers, BIO

Thoughts on the Getty Images/OpenAI deal this morning

Getty Images jumped 200% this morning on an OpenAI deal. The announcement didn't include a single dollar figure. No annual minimum. No per-query fee. No revenue share. No training terms. Just a multi-year agreement that puts Getty's licensed content into ChatGPT search and discovery experiences. The market celebrated anyway. That's the actual story. Not that Getty got a huge check, we don't know that. The story is that the market is so starved for proof that AI companies will negotiate licensed

Chinese Grid Operators Resist Plans to Boost Renewables to Power AI

Grid operators are concerned that the Chinese drive to hike the share of renewable electricity powering AI would raise the risks for power firms as peak demand at data centers is difficult to forecast. Industry analysts and officials have told Reuters that the Chinese strategic priority of having renewables power the majority of electricity demand at data centers by 2030 may not be feasible. “From what we understand, they (data centers) cannot really adjust power consumption load much,” Reuters

Multifactor as protection against scams?

Hey guys, short thesis/question: Does a multifactor ETF perhaps also make sense because it protects you somewhat from nonsense changes in normal market capitalized indices? Take SpaceX, for example: Index rules were changed or accelerated at short notice, so that a huge hype IPO can be pushed into passive products much more quickly. And if SpaceX does that, OpenAI, Anthropic & Co. will probably follow suit at some point. Then the normal ETF saver buys such valuations automatically
