Oil Market Flying Blind as Dark Tanker Traffic Surges in Hormuz

Tanker traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has collapsed by 90% to 95% compared to pre-war levels, analysts concur. Some oil cargoes continue to trickle through the critical chokepoint, but under increasingly opaque operating conditions, complicating the tracking of oil and gas flows and obscuring the visibility of how much energy supply actually reaches buyers these days. Traffic appears to have ramped up in recent weeks, according to an analysis of shipping data by Reuters energy columnist Ro

Norman Bethune’s story still holds lessons for China-Canada relations

I grew up in a classroom where the name Norman Bethune was invoked with reverence. Like every schoolchild in China, I could recite from memory Chairman Mao’s 1939 essay “In Memory of Norman Bethune”, which characterised Bethune as a man who had come from afar, who gave his life to the Chinese revolution, who embodied selflessness and internationalism. For years, I kept a poster in my office – the famous oil painting of Mao meeting Bethune in Yan’an – as a quiet tribute. As the years passed and..

An honest question about staying invested all along?

So I've been investing for a couple of months now, and how do you have the motivation to keep investing even when prices are up? Like I mean, for example, when I started investing into stocks and index funds, my avgs were down and now they've all gone up and so has my portfolio. But everything is expensive. And are we assuming it will always go up eventually over the new few years/decades? like to infinity? Or do u guys rebalance portfolio every once in a while(1-3 years) switching to different

How to deal with small amounts of money

I would like to invest but I only have small amounts (1-2k euros a month) that I can put it. I have been wondering what is a good approach in my case - put it all in a broad ETF of stocks as it has generally returned 8% long term adjusted for inflation or pick stocks. The former will grow always, unless capitalism fails, but generally slowly. The latter is riskier but it could outperform. The question is does it make sense to put the money in one diversified place or try to squeeze that outperfo

Why Solar Power Is Booming Under Trump

Despite the Trump administration’s pivot away from renewable energies, solar continues to dominate new energy additions in the United States. Newly released data from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) shows that at the close of last year, solar energy additions were the single largest form of new energy capacity installations for the 28th straight month, starting in September of 2023. In fact, in spite of a broad rollback of Biden-era clean energy incentives since Trump resumed off

Company shut down 401K rollover - How will mix of ROTH/traditional be handled

My company shut down and I will need to move my 401K to an IRA. Company 401K was managed through Schwab and all my personal investment accounts are with Schwab as well (brokerage, Roth IRA, traditional IRA). The 401K was setup as self directed (PCRA) and is comprised of 60% Roth and 40% traditional with a mix of ETF's, equities, BDC's, REITS and cash. My question is how will my investments within the 401k be handled in a rollover that is part ROTH/part traditional? Will I have to liquidate every

Bernadette Chirac, formidable French first lady dubbed ‘last queen of France’, dies at 93

Bernadette Chirac, the steel-willed former first lady of France who spent 12 years at the Elysee Palace from 1995 to 2007 beside President Jacques Chirac – weathering his notorious infidelities with dry humour while building her own political power base in rural France – has died. She was 93. President Emmanuel Macron confirmed her death on Saturday, saying he and his wife Brigitte had learned with “great sadness” of the passing of a woman who marked French history, and changed the lives of...

Market pumpers are in overdrive

It is certainly interesting to see people fly out of the woodwork to assure everyone with all the detailed explanations of why the market went down a few measly percent, to just keep buying and it will be all time high again next week. And maybe it will be. Or we could see further declines of 5, 10, 15, 20% or more in the coming months. That’s not “bad”, if anything it’s healthy for investors. It’s just that those that already bought higher are now upset. Forest fires have cleared overcrowded fo

Financed car turns out to be a repair trap - what next? (Ford Focus MK4, 156,000 km)

Hello, I need your advice. In 2025 I financed a Ford Focus MK4 1.5 EcoBlue automatic (EZ 12/2020, 136,000 km) from a dealer for 12,000 euros plus interest. Unfortunately, this purchase later turned out to be a mistake. After an accident in which a tension belt from a vehicle in front damaged my car, the expert found that the previous damage had clearly been repaired. At the time of purchase and in the purchase contract there was only mention of a small repainting
