Hong Kong’s rail giant has launched an investigation after a woman was injured when a ceiling panel fell and hit her leg at Telford Plaza in Kowloon Bay. The MTR Corporation, which also manages the shopping centre, said on Saturday that a section of the ceiling near an entrance to Phase One had become loose and fallen shortly before midnight on June 18. Shopping centre staff immediately attended to her, called police and accompanied her to hospital for treatment, according to the MTR...

The U.S. States Leading the Backlash Against Data Centers

Several U.S. states are concerned about the rapid expansion of data centres, as consumers pressure legislators to address rising utility bills and other energy concerns. Data centres are expected to be a major consumer of U.S. power by 2030 and beyond, as several tech companies expand their network, which is growing consumer concerns around the country’s power supply and demand. This has led several states to halt or even ban data centre development. Globally, data centres are expected to consum

Outlook Therapeutics ($OTLK): PDUFA on July 29 – How much would you risk on a 200k portfolio?

Hi everyone I'm currently looking at Outlook Therapeutics ($OTLK). The FDA decision (PDUFA) for their eye drug Lytenava is due on July 29th. Since the FDA has just accepted the application as "Class 1", things will become extremely binary in a good five weeks: either the stock takes off (EU approval is already available) or the thing crashes completely because it is already the fourth attempt and the balance sheets look really bad (negative equity, constant dilution). A serious question about risk

As the US dismantles its global hegemony, will China step up?

As the US voluntarily dismantles its global hegemony, China has neither the will nor the capacity to fill the role, a prominent Chinese foreign policy expert has argued. Beijing was forging an alternative path rooted in sovereign equality and multilateralism, rather than a quest for global dominance, said Da Wei, director of Tsinghua University’s Centre for International Security and Strategy. “I believe America’s global institutional hegemony is coming to an end,” Da told a public seminar at...

Trump escalates spat with Italy’s Meloni over G7 photo claim

US President Donald Trump escalated a diplomatic row with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on Saturday, accusing her of repeatedly seeking a photograph with him and linking the dispute to tensions over Iran and Nato. The clash has opened an unusually personal rift between Trump and one of Europe’s most prominent right-wing leaders, who had sought to cast herself as a bridge between Washington and the continent during Trump’s return to power. Trump had initially told Italian broadcaster La7.

Where can I find a list of stocks the US government is purchasing?

NOT Edit: Not politicians. The US government it's self is buying stocks, that is what I am asking about. Example https://www.pbs.org/newshour/politics/what-economic-and-policy-experts-think-about-the-u-s-governments-stake-in-intel 'What you need to know about the government's 10% stake in Intel' When I search all the results are what the politicians are buying. I want to know what the US government is buying directly. And a statement of what they intend to buy as well. Not news crap, it must be

Regions instead of MSCI World

Hi, I've had the idea for a while now instead of relying on one MSCI World, whose weighting I can't change, to instead rely on several region ETFs. Specifically, I have in mind the combination of S&P500, Stoxx Europe 600 and Nikkei 225. This means that the 3 core financial markets are covered in a manageable portfolio and I can adjust the weighting as desired. I realize that this requires a little more effort than with an MSCI World. I'm also missing some side wars

And Apec makes 4? Trump pencils in another ‘big’ China trip as US midterms loom

US President Donald Trump’s announcement that he will visit China “at some point” this year sets the stage for an unusually frequent series of face-to-face meetings between the American and Chinese leaders – potentially up to four encounters in 2026. The two leaders have already met once this year for a summit in Beijing and Xi is expected to travel to the United States in September for a state visit and again in December for the Group of 20 meeting. Unveiling a new US presidential plane on...

Spanish court bans PM’s wife from leaving country

A Spanish court has ordered the wife of Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, Begona Gomez, to stand trial by jury for corruption and banned her from leaving the country, according to a court order released on Saturday. The case is one of several corruption affairs that have embroiled the Socialist leader’s family and former allies, threatening to topple his minority coalition government. Judge Juan Carlos Peinado ordered Gomez to hand in her passport and to appear before the court twice a month until a

Risk for Schufa score due to (threatened) Commerzbank termination

Hi everyone, I have the following question: My oldest checking account is with Commerzbank. They've been annoying me for years now, asking me to agree to their new terms and conditions (including an account management fee of €5 per month, I think it's hacking!). I've been able to ignore it so far and so far without any consequences. Actually, I would be willing to simply change the account. However, I have now heard that the age of the oldest checking account has an influence on the Schufa score, meaning that the Schufa score will never get worse

Guinea pushes Simandou on iron ore exports to feed China’s ‘green steel’ mills

Shipping services in Guinea are being upended as the West African country ramps up iron ore exports for China’s “green steel” production lines to take advantage of much higher prices. Vessels that usually ship bauxite from Guinea have been diverted to iron ore to maximise exports before heavy seasonal rains grind production to a halt, according to international shipbroking and maritime research firm Ifchor Galbraiths. Analysts say that shoring up supplies from Guinea helps China with its broader
