Iran War Strengthens the Case for Renewables and Storage

Let’s say that the Iran war has ended. Being investors, not political pundits or military strategists, we won’t opine on who won. Major events, however, have investment consequences. The incontrovertible winners, on a short and long-term basis, are the engineering, infrastructure, and construction firms that repair the damage, and the munitions manufacturers that replace the equipment consumed in the war. Nobody else comes close. What about oil? Oil prices have already retreated. Iran may rejoin

Integrity of World Cup is questioned as Trump, Fifa defend Balogun suspension actions

With the integrity of Fifa and the World Cup under attack from European football leaders, Fifa President Gianni Infantino acknowledged taking a call from US President Donald Trump before US forward Folarin Balogun was cleared to play against Belgium later on Monday. Balogun was issued a red card in the US match against Bosnia-Herzegovina last week, resulting in a suspension for the Belgium contest. Trump called Infantino after the match with Bosnia to plead his case to overturn the call and Fifa

The Family Ministry is apparently only planning three mandatory “father months” for parental allowance

Family Minister Karin Prien (CDU) wants to reduce the maximum period of receipt of parental allowance: from the current 14 to twelve months. SPIEGEL reported on it. The magazine Politico now reports that the parental allowance model is to be modified so that the so-called “father months” would be increased from two to three months. As recently as June, coalition circles said that Prien's plans would provide for four months for both partners and a further four months for free distribution in order to have full access

Short/Midterm ETF Diversification

What are you guys holding outside the core index funds? I want to gradually allocate 10-15% into some other ETFs and could use some ideas. My shortlist right now: Momentum, Asia ex-China/Japan, or semiconductors, but I am open to suggestions. I need some EU-domiciled ETFs that are traded on EU-regulated exchanges. I'm a bit hesitant on semiconductors. It feels like I missed the boat and we might be at the peak. I'm guessing the recent bump in Asian stocks is mostly just riding that same semicond

UAE Oil Production Nears Record High After OPEC Exit

The UAE is wasting little time capitalizing on its exit from OPEC, with crude production already climbing above 3.8 million barrels per day in June, its highest level in more than six years, as Abu Dhabi rapidly converts spare capacity into exports despite weaker oil prices. Production has accelerated since the UAE formally withdrew from OPEC and OPEC+ on May 1, ending years of output restrictions that had limited its ability to fully utilize its production capacity. Energy Minister Suhail Al Ma

Nato can’t be ‘naive’ about China as it ramps up military might, Rutte claims

Nato cannot be “naive” about China’s military development, as the Indo-Pacific and European theatres are becoming “more intertwined”, evident in Beijing’s support for Moscow’s war in Ukraine, Nato’s Secretary General has said. During a pre-summit press conference on Monday, a day before the Nato summit in Ankara, Turkey, this week, Nato Secretary General Mark Rutte responded to questions about a Chinese nuclear-powered submarine firing a test missile into the Pacific. Rutte said that Nato...

The Colorado River Crisis Is Reaching a Breaking Point

Depending on whom you talk to, the Colorado River serves either 35 million or 40 million people, all of whom are having to reconsider how much water they use and how they use it in the wake of an ongoing megadrought that arrived at the beginning of this century. The changes are no longer in the "let's-discuss-this" phase as the federal government threatens to impose up to a 40 percent cut in river water allocations over the next 10 years if the seven western states—Colorado, New Mexico, Wyoming,

Prince Harry will not stay at Buckingham Palace during London visit

Prince Harry has been told he cannot stay at Buckingham Palace this week after he failed to accept an invitation in time, a royal source said on Monday, underlining the still fraught relationship between King Charles and his second son. Harry had been planning to take ‌his two children for their first visit to Britain in four years but on Saturday his spokesperson said Archie, seven, and Lilibet, five, would not be going to London. The family failed to agree a security deal with the...

Is the Chinese stock market actually investable?

Hello everyone, I keep going back and forth on China as an investment. The market is obviously massive, but the political and regulatory risk makes me hesitate. It feels like the government can have a much bigger influence there than in most other stock markets. So I’m wondering how people here think about it in general. Do you see China as a normal part of emerging markets, or as something completely different? Just looking for opinions and discussion, not personal advice. submitted by /u/Key-C

Work with daily allowance

I have my first job after training, good salary and good conditions. I've soon saved up an emergency fund of €6,500, which is supposed to increase by €100 a year at the savings bank, which is in the current account for an unbeatable... 0.4% (!). Which is really sobering. On the one hand, I would like to have my nest egg quickly available for emergencies, but I would also like to let it work for me as money lying around. Now TR, Scalable and others have higher interest rates on the daily money
