The $4 trillion liquidity drain

In March Nasdaq changed how companies enter the Nasdaq 100. Before, you needed 3 to 12 months seasoning and a 10% public float. Now its 15 trading days if youre top 40 by market cap, with no float requirement and no seasoning. SpaceX listed with a 4% free float, meaning almost no supply, yet an estiamted 22 to 27 billion in forced passive buying hit immediately. The same mechanics apply to OpenAI and Anthropic. These three companies are targeting 200 billion plus in a six month window. The entir

JPMorgan: European Stocks Are Attractively Cheap After Oil Price Slump

Europe’s relatively cheap stocks could become attractive for investors as the oil prices plunged and markets hope the Hormuz crisis is over, according to JPMorgan. Assuming that the Middle East crisis has peaked and oil prices drop, investors are likely to return to their positioning from before the war, Karen Ward, chief market strategist for Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) at JPMorgan Asset Management, told Bloomberg in an interview published on Thursday. Before the Middle East confl

Why haven't IRA limits kept up with inflation? original $1500 limit in 1974= $10,132.45 today

The IRA was created in 1974 with an annual limit of $1500, which adjusted for inflation is equivalent to $10,132.45 today, however the current IRA limit is $7500. That was for all ages too. Even the catch up contribution limit boost today is at $8600. still below the original dollar value. Shouldn't we have at least the same contribution limit as our grandparents did? I mean I guess if you want to say the original dollar amount was arbitrary and we shouldn't base today's limits on that, but it s

#SellIndonesia vs #SellSingapore: market sell-off fuels cross-border digital feud

A sharp sell-off in Indonesian assets has taken on a political tone online, with some social media users alleging, without evidence, that Singapore stands to gain from a “Sell Indonesia” narrative around Southeast Asia’s biggest economy. The rupiah has slipped to multiple record lows and weakened about 8 per cent this year, crossing a key level and trading above 18,000 to the US dollar last week, while Jakarta’s stock market has lost about a third of its value since the start of the year. As...

Israel’s foreign minister cuts ties with top EU diplomat over ‘apartheid’ remark

Israel’s foreign minister said on Thursday that he was severing all contact with the European Union’s top diplomat Kaja Kallas over reported remarks in which she allegedly compared Israel to the apartheid regime that once ruled South Africa. Diplomatic relations between Israel and the EU have come under heavy strain since the Gaza war erupted in October 2023, as well as over violence by Israeli settlers towards Palestinians in the occupied West Bank. On Thursday, Gideon Saar accused EU foreign..

Hegseth blasts Nato for not giving US access to European bases during Iran war

US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth lashed out at Nato allies on Thursday, announcing a six-month Pentagon review of American forces in Europe whose outcome will depend on how fast the Europeans take responsibility for their own security. “This will be a real review. It will be designed to ensure that Nato is moving fast and irreversibly towards Europe leading, stepping up to take primary responsibility for the defence of Europe,” he told his Nato counterparts in Brussels. Hegseth lambasted...

No, Europe isn’t “Falling Behind” America

Does anyone understand these effects of different methods of calculating GDP growth and inflation rate? This was completely new to me and I found it extremely interesting. Especially since the argument often comes up in the discussion that the official inflation rate is not particularly meaningful because "improvements" in technical products are taken into account. As the video shows, this is not the case in all countries to the same extent. submitted by /u/justmisterpi

Hong Kong to use 21 indicators to define poor after dropping income metric

Hong Kong will measure the size of its poor using a new 21-indicator framework, abandoning the previous income-based metric said to have overestimated the number of underprivileged people by ignoring billions of dollars spent on public housing and healthcare. In a 224-page report released on Thursday, the government also raised the concept of “social transfer values” for the first time, referring to how much income a family effectively gains by not having to pay full price for public...

High Oil Prices Are Driving an EV Boom in Europe

High oil and fuel prices led to yet another monthly rise in electric car sales in Europe, at a solid 34% on the year, thanks in no small part to the wider availability of cheaper vehicles from China, Reuters reported today, citing data from E-Mobility and New Automotive. Yet, European carmakers are also seeing higher demand for their electric models, with Renault reporting a 50% increase in its EV order book, per Reuters. However, the chief executive of the French major cautioned that this could
