Why do you buy dividend stocks?

Isn't it better for a company if it doesn't distribute its surpluses to shareholders but instead reinvests in the company? Ultimately, in most cases, this distribution must be taxed by the company and again by the investor. As a shareholder, you benefit from companies that invest in their operational activities/growth? So aren't such growth companies much more efficient at generating growth? (I'm new to the field, bi
