How detailed do you plan your finances - and if so, with what?

I'm interested in how others handle this. For a long time at home it was very unstructured, but somehow it worked, but no one really had an overview and costs were spread out over the top. But that changed with increasing capital, salary increases and investments, because at some point the mix became too big and difficult to manage. So the good old Excel list had to be used; for years I always made 3-4 lists. Vermie
