China records most new unicorn start-ups in 5 years as AI and robotics boom

China’s innovation ecosystem has witnessed a resurgence, minting 67 new unicorn start-ups in the first half of 2026 – the biggest increase in almost five years – as AI and robotics kick off a new investment cycle. The growth translates into an average of one new unicorn – private companies valued at US$1 billion or more – in less than every three days and was the highest since the second half of 2021 when 76 new unicorns were created, according to a Monday report by ITJuzi, a start-up...

Before we hail Hong Kong cinema’s return, let’s ensure its survival

The Furious, Hong Kong’s latest action flick, is crushing it on Rotten Tomatoes and has garnered critical acclaim abroad – proof of what human-centric filmmaking can still deliver in today’s market. But before we rush to hail the return of Hong Kong cinema, a new breed of drama factory is quietly generating content at a velocity no human team could ever match. In mainland China, micro dramas generated by artificial intelligence (AI) have turned the industry upside down. A production schedule...

Why Abu Dhabi Is Building the World's First Integrated Energy-AI Economy

For decades, countries have been competing by setting up larger energy sectors, deeper ports, or stronger digital economies. That era is ending. The emerging global economy, even if it being fractured, is no longer defined by excellence in individual sectors but by the ability to integrate them into a single strategic ecosystem. Energy powers artificial intelligence, AI optimizes logistics, while maritime infrastructure enables both physical and digital trade. Few governments have fully grasped

Trump hints at public ‘contribution’ from US AI firms, sparking speculation

US President Donald Trump suggested on Monday that leading American artificial intelligence companies would make a public “contribution” to the country, offering few details but fuelling speculation about a greater government role in the booming industry. Speaking in the Oval Office on Monday morning, Trump said tech companies “making tremendous amounts of money” will be making “a contribution to the people of our country”. “We’re going to have guardrails … You know that. But [AI] can be used...

If China keeps growing, what are the better ways to get exposure without buying Chinese stocks directly?

Hi everyone, After my last post about whether the Chinese stock market is actually investable, most people basically said to avoid it. I get the concerns. I understand why a lot of people don’t want direct exposure to Chinese equities. At the same time, I still think the China story is far from over, especially in areas like AI chips, robotics, EVs, batteries, and other industrial sectors. So for this post, I’d rather forget about direct Chinese stock investing and talk about other ways to benef

How you are all preserving capital?

I feel like the stock market is overvalued right now, and the risk/reward isn't there for me personally. Most companies are experimenting with and overspending on AI without any clear ROI yet. The same logic applies to chip and memory stocks, prices are up only because of huge demand driven by data center buildouts and hyperscalers competing with each other, but the moment any one of them slows down capex, those order books get canceled fast, and the premiums they're charging will vanish. I feel

China’s Biren seeks US$900m to fund GPU push and challenge Nvidia amid AI boom

Chinese artificial intelligence chipmaking champion Shanghai Biren Technology is raising HK$7 billion (US$892.5 million) to boost production of its graphics processing units (GPUs), joining a fierce domestic battle to capture Nvidia’s market share in the country amid a global AI boom. The company, which went public in Hong Kong in January, announced that it would issue 153 million new shares at HK$46.2 each, representing a 9.9 per cent discount to the stock’s closing price of HK$51.3 last...

Opportunity for its own ETF?

For six years I've been a part of the Semiconductors and data centers build out and it led me to start researching. Over the last year, I've spent a lot of time researching the semiconductor and data center market. One thing that has stood out to me is how much of the AI conversation revolves around chip designers and hyperscalers, while the picks and shovels enabling production and deployment often receive less attention. I'm referring to areas such as: Advanced packaging Testing and inspecti

Anti-drug video fiasco not a vote of confidence in Hong Kong’s AI goals

It’s unfortunate for Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu that his speech on July 1 marking the 29th anniversary of the handover and highlighting his government’s achievements may have been overshadowed by the outcry over an anti-drug video – or at least what was intended as one. The Correctional Services Department released the video, generated by artificial intelligence (AI), on June 26 before having to pull it twice, ahead of the anniversary. The video – featuring an appealing K-pop...

Five Energy Stocks Riding Texas's Data Center Power Boom

Fly into Abilene, Amarillo or Midland this year and you'll see the buildout before you land: cranes over half-finished turbine halls, miles of freshly trenched pipeline right-of-way, and fenced-off scrubland that a year ago grew nothing but mesquite and cotton. Texas has become the epicenter of America's AI data center boom, and unlike a lot of things AI, the money behind it is already spent, not just promised. ERCOT, the grid operator that runs most of the state's power market, now projects ele

The Era of Cheap U.S. Natural Gas May Be Coming to an End

U.S. natural gas prices are set to rise through 2035, following a decade of low Henry Hub prices, as the AI data center boom and the expansion of U.S. LNG export infrastructure will underpin strong demand, analysts at Wood Mackenzie say. During the decade to 2025, the benchmark U.S. Henry Hub prices remained in a narrow range of between $2 per million British thermal units (MMBtu) $4 per MMBtu, thanks to the surge in U.S. gas production as operators invested in standalone gas plays and boosted a

SYK and general stock research and how im starting to use AI to research

Ive been interested in recently in becoming a better investor and im trying to learn more and to be smart about my money. I started casually by looking at companies i know about and just reading about them googling / YouTube very general questions looking for answers. Then I tried to get down to more direct info and I thought id start asking AI very generic questions (because I didn't know what to ask...so it would be questions like, is such and such stock a good investment, what does such and s

What is a good asset to invest if you believe a market correction is coming?

I strongly believe some sort of market correction will be happening between now and 2030, most probably triggered by the AI bubble popping, but the world geopolitics (and US politics where the largest chunk of the market depends on) are so unstable that it feels we are each day walking a tighter rope. I also received a bonus from work that I could put somewhere. But if I just do "WEBN and forget", or even if I dig into other ETFs, they will give about, idk, 5 to 10% that would get erased on a 50
