Investments for 1099 RN employee?

Hi all, currently a 1099 RN looking for ways to invest. Ideally, I may come close to making >160k so want to know options outside of the Roth IRA if possible. I do have a Roth that I’ve contributed to every year that I’m able to. Also, if I were to obtain another W2 job, can I still contribute to a self directed 401k in additional to the retirement plan my potential employer would offer? I’ve always had both a W2 & a 1099 income source, but trying to make only a 1099 work if it’s possible (much

24M Fidelity Investment Opinion

Hello everyone, I opened my Roth IRA when I was 22 and had built it up to about $11,000 as of last week. I recently rolled over an old 401(k) worth roughly $5,000 into my Roth IRA, bringing the balance to around $16,000. I also just maxed out my annual contribution limit with an additional $7,500. I'm curious to hear what others are invested in and get some opinions on my current allocation. Right now, my Roth IRA holds: • 38 shares of FXAIX • 221 shares of FZROX • 59 shares of FZILX For my new

Myanmar’s China-backed mega dam revival risks Kachin rebel backlash

Deep in the forested highlands of northern Myanmar, where the Irrawaddy River rises from two tributaries in the hills of Kachin state, a contentious infrastructure project is stirring again – and threatening to reopen wounds that never fully healed. The Myitsone Dam, a US$3.6 billion Chinese-financed hydroelectric megaproject that was shelved more than a decade ago after igniting a storm of popular fury, is back on the table. Myanmar’s military rulers have begun holding public consultations on..

Which private company do you think will be the best IPO investment of the next 5 years?

Everyone talks about the Magnificent 7, but I'm more interested in companies that haven't gone public yet. If you had to choose one private company that is likely to IPO within the next 5 years and hold it for 10+ years, which would you pick and why? Some names that come to mind: Stripe Databricks Canva OpenAI Chime Discord I'm not looking for the most hyped company. I'm looking for businesses with: Strong competitive moats Large addressable markets A realistic path to profitability Long-term gr

Chinese EV makers shift focus from price wars to AI capability: Morgan Stanley

The focus of competition for Chinese electric vehicles (EVs) is shifting from prices to artificial intelligence capability, as carmakers try to manage weakening demand amid tightened regulations, according to Morgan Stanley. The push in AI would likely bring models with conditionally autonomous driving capability, or Level 3 (L3), to market, said Tim Hsiao, head of the Greater China auto and shared mobility research team at Morgan Stanley, in a recent interview with the South China Morning Post.

What would it actually take for Western companies to trust Huawei

I've been going back and forth on this for a while and I still can't land anywhere solid. The reason I'm thinking about this now is the Tau Scaling announcement Huawei made at an IEEE conference in Shanghai a couple weeks ago. They proposed what they're calling a successor to Moore's Law, an architecture called LogicFolding that stacks chip layers vertically instead of shrinking transistors, and claimed it'll hit performance equivalent to a 1.4nm process by 2031 without ever needing EUV lithogra

How are covered call ETFs taxed in an inherited IRA?

I am (unfortunately) in the situation where I received an IRA. It’s not applicable for me to roll it over into my retirement accounts. I do not have to take mandatory yearly distributions (since it was not being withdrawn from yet) but I will have to empty the account in 10 years and any withdrawals will be taxed as regular income (as told to me by the on boarding representative from Fidelity). So I was wondering, how will it work out if someone invested in SPYI, QQQI, GPIX, GPIQ, ROCQ or ROCY a

US takes step to halt Nvidia AI chip shipments to Chinese overseas subsidiaries

The US Department of Commerce on Sunday moved to close a year-old potential loophole it had created that may have led companies to export ‌the world’s most advanced chips – such as Nvidia’s most sophisticated Rubin and Blackwell processors, as well as AMD’s MI350x – to Chinese entities located outside China. The unexpected guidance suggests the United States’ best artificial intelligence chips may have been making their way to the subsidiaries of Chinese AI firms based in places such as Malaysia

On fire safety, Hong Kong needs a mindset change

Hong Kong simply has not developed the right mindset with respect to fire safety. Unless prompt, effective action is taken, we could be looking at more tragedies like the Wang Fuk Court disaster in Tai Po. The numbers are stark and overwhelming, yet the context from which they have been derived is even more frightening. In January and February this year, the Fire Services Department inspected some 1,500 residential and mixed-use buildings planned at least 39 years ago. The exercise resulted in..
