Teaching daughters

My daughter is 13. We grew up in working class families, my husband’s had even less. We are better off now and she is living a totally different life (not LV, yachts and gifted cars) - comfy with restrictions. I want her to be financially literate from a young age. What are the important pieces of financial knowledge you are passing down to your daughters? Philosophical and practical. Thanks 🤩 submitted by /u/marookee [link] [comments]

Wedding r/Finance-Style

After the many posts about weddings triggered by the post about the Vietnamese wedding -- which has now made it into the Hall of Fame: r/Finanzen memes along with carbonara, bed tent and Lidl pumpkin seeds - I wanted to call for people to post weddings suitable for r/Finanzen here. I'll start with mine: 2018 in Lower Bavaria in the country registry office with eating out with parents, siblings and their families. Later wedding celebration with a freelance wedding officiant. Just over 100 adults. Guests with approx. 25 Ki

The state has no money, but is throwing it out the window elsewhere

Hello, yesterday in the tagesschau: There will probably be no increase in student loans. The reason: Parental allowance and care allowance are being reduced, so you cannot increase student loans. In addition, it has already been decided that for many millions of people, spouses will no longer be insured free of charge in their health insurance. And this despite the fact that the health insurance rates and the BBG were significantly increased twice in a row. Then there is something like the CO2 tax, which applies to everything that uses fossil fuels

There are 35k in the savings account - park more sensibly but still remain flexible?

I have around €35,000 in a savings account that produces practically nothing. I'm barely familiar with stocks/ETFs and am looking for a simple, low-risk way to park the money more sensibly without completely losing flexibility. I probably won't need it in the short term, but I'd like to be able to get it in an emergency. What would you recommend: overnight money, money market ETF, division into emergency funds + remainder, or something else? submitted by /u/TheIndernet [link] [comments]

Explaining who pressured FTSE Russell into changing their rules for the SpaceX IPO

SpaceX is going public soon. The company is valued at around 1.75 trillion. However, the insiders are keeping about 95 percent of the shares. They are only selling a very small amount to the public. Usually, big index funds like Vanguard and the S and P 500 have strict rules. They wait until a company proves it makes a profit. They also make sure there are enough shares available to buy. This stops the fund from driving the price up too much when they buy. Now, the people who make these rules ar

Transport sector calls for smoother border checks, wider mainland driving scheme

Hong Kong’s transport sector has called for faster cross-border immigration clearance and an expansion of a popular scheme allowing local vehicles to enter Guangdong province to include other mainland Chinese cities. The call was made on Monday after the Northbound Travel for Hong Kong Vehicles scheme, which took effect in 2023, was extended by five years to June 1, 2031. The scheme allows eligible private car owners in Hong Kong to drive into Guangdong via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge...

The leaders of Vietnam and the Philippines upheld the importance of keeping the freedom of navigation in the South China Sea amid tensions in the strategic waterway where Beijing lays expansive claim. “As fellow claimant states, we reaffirm that maintaining peace, stability and the freedom of navigation and overflight in the South China Sea remains non-negotiable,” Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jnr said. Hong Kong government’s venture fund eyes bigger bankroll after double-digit return

The government’s investment arm achieved a double-digit internal rate of return last year, greater than many newly established venture capital funds, according to its CEO. “Many overseas funds have a J-curve performance, as they tend to suffer an initial loss before a gain,” said Clara Chan Ka-chai, CEO of Hong Kong Investment Corporation (HKIC). “But we have already bypassed the J-curve, as we have earned HK$2.3 billion [US$293 million] in 2024, while we have achieved a double-digit rate of...

Impact of Middle East war on Hong Kong’s inflation limited, finance chief says

Hong Kong’s finance chief has said the Middle East war has played only a limited role in driving up local inflation, noting the city’s service-based economy and stable energy supplies from mainland China have mitigated the effects of external shocks. Briefing the Legislative Council on Monday, Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po said the surge in global fuel prices was expected to affect fuel-related consumer prices, pushing inflation higher. “Rising international oil prices will continue to...
