Concerns mount in China’s space sector that Musk’s Starship will be a failure

There are growing doubts within China’s space sector that Starship, the world’s most powerful rocket being developed by SpaceX in the United States, will ever overcome its engineering and financial challenges and deliver for founder and CEO Elon Musk. Starship’s latest flight on Friday – weeks before the company’s expected initial public offering (IPO) – was described as “mostly successful” by the company after engine failures occurred in both the first and second stages. After the first stage..

Why Brent and WTI Crude Price Movements Are Diverging Today

Oil markets traded in an unusual pattern in Tuesday’s early morning session, with Brent crude prices rising while WTI crude fell, a shift from their usual lockstep movements. Brent crude for July delivery gained 3.16% to trade at $99.18 per barrel at 9:00 am ET on Tuesday… With the comparable WTI crude contract falling 4.09% to change hands at $92.65/bbl a day after U.S. strikes in Iran clouded an expected peace deal. Brent tends to react more strongly to Middle East shipping risk because it is

Tanker hit by explosion near Hormuz hours after US strikes on Iran

An explosion damaged a tanker close to its waterline as it sailed off Oman, a marine monitor said on Tuesday, as tensions remained high around the blockaded Strait of Hormuz. The captain reported the explosion on the hull of the vessel, UK Maritime Trade Operations said. “The crew and vessel are safe, although the master reports some bunker fuel has discharged into the sea.” The incident, in the Gulf of Oman about 60 nautical miles east of Muscat, was an “external explosion”, UKMTO added,...

Passt schon. Ab einer gewissen Depotgröße/Einkommen spielt das echt keine allzu große Rolle mehr. Ich habe trotzdem am Ende jedes Monats mehr Geld im Depot/auf dem Konto. Also was soll’s? submitted by

Deadly building collapse shocks Philippine city: ‘like an aeroplane landing’

James Bernardo, 30, was delivering food on Teodoro street in Angeles City in the Philippines when a nine-storey building under construction on the opposite side of the road collapsed behind him. “What I heard behind me sounded like an aeroplane landing. The sound was unlike anything normal. When I looked at my side mirror and then turned around, what I saw were pylons falling and power lines sparking,” Bernardo told This Week in Asia. In just seconds, the structure had morphed into a twisted...

A mainland Chinese mother who tried to secure a Hong Kong secondary school place for her son by offering a bribe to an assistant principal received a suspended jail sentence on Tuesday. Polymarket secondary on Crowdcube

Is anybody considering the secondary Polymarket is running on Crowdcube? They reported $10B in volume and they are raising at $15B valuation. With a 2% fee, that means $200M is revenue which means a 75x P/E, which is high. But world sport betting market revenue is $300B, that is 1500x their current revenue. Plus the pre-IPO betting on private company they announced last week could be huge It seems they raised very little (under $600k). A potential concern is that they are offering series B prefe

Trump makes everything worse but he didn’t start it

While cleaning my basement, I found an old copy of Foreign Affairs dated September/October 2014. If you didn’t look at the publication date but only its table of contents, you would have thought it was a recent edition. Titled “See America: Land of Decay & Dysfunction”, the edition’s front cover is a painting of a crumbling Capitol Building that houses the United States Congress. Keep in mind we are talking about the second year of the second term of Barack Obama, whose presidency is now fondly.

Hormuz Shutdown Sends Capital Flooding Back Into Renewables

Concerns about energy security and the push in many countries to boost electrification to replace road transportation fuels are making clean energy investments hot again. As the Middle East crisis and the still closed Strait of Hormuz forces governments into action, renewable stocks and markets are poised for a rebound from institutional investors and hedge funds after a few years of weak returns, according to analysts, investors, and officials. “You need a price signal and then capital and inve
