Where is the Uber of the AI era?

We keep talking about what roles will be replaced with AI and where gains will be made etc. but I’m kinda surprised by the fact I’ve not yet seen any major markets or industries totally revamped due to AI similar to the way Uber revamped the taxi model. Ride sharing all but replaced taxi services due to mobile apps, gps tracking and P2P matching. Surely the efficiencies inherent with AI means certain services or industries will be totally revamped as an AI powered disruptor arrives. Where has it

Hong Kong is emerging as a leading capital hub of the multipolar era

For years, Hong Kong’s obituary has been repeatedly written by international commentators. Geopolitical tensions, pandemic isolation, concerns over capital flight and questions surrounding the city’s future contributed to a narrative of irreversible decline. In many Western analyses, the assumption that Hong Kong’s best days as an international financial centre were behind it became almost automatic. Yet the latest global wealth management data tells a very different story. According to...

US and Iran exchange new attacks as sides locked in stalemate

Gulf hostilities flared anew on Wednesday, with the US military saying Iranian missile attacks on Bahrain, Kuwait and other regional targets were either thwarted or failed as diplomacy between Washington and Tehran showed little progress. Two Iranian missiles shot at Kuwait fell short or broke apart in-flight, several ballistic missiles aimed at regional targets failed and three missiles heading for Bahrain were intercepted, US Central Command said. Since the conflict began in late February,.

More red tape, less progress: China’s cadres struggle to adopt ‘error tolerance’

Despite repeated directives to ease the burden on local officials and curb formalism, many of China’s cadres still find themselves trapped in a frustrating cycle of working harder yet achieving fewer tangible results, according to state-linked media. Banyuetan, an influential biweekly magazine affiliated with state news agency Xinhua, outlined five symptoms of this “busier-but-emptier” phenomenon in a report published on its website on Tuesday. Beijing has long called for easing the burden of...

Found out a trader made $1M betting on US military strikes before they happened and its completely legal

I saw this on the house.gov website earlier, and I thought it was wild. Basically, there's documented evidence of a single trader who made nearly a million dollars betting on US military strikes against Iran. 93% success rate. He was placing bets hours before each attack happened. October 2024, June 2025, February 2026. Congress is now investigating, and subpoenas are being discussed. On top of that 38 separate accounts made over 2 million dollars on one strike alone after loading their accounts

How are you hedging your portfolio given the current market conditions?

Title sums it up. I just don't understand how the market treats any news nowadays as always positive, especially with the Iran crisis. I do understand that capex spending is still here, and companies are backed by real revenue and income, I just don't understand the crazy exuberance like the Marvell situation today. My portfolio for example is extremely concentrated and would do horrible in a large correction / crash. I got extremely lucky buying Micron last year, and I also doubled up on Google

Wondering the best time to take RMD?

For those who inherited an IRA a year ago and haven't taken any RMD yet, and 60 years old, which is preferable? Taking a lump at the end of the year, or dispersing it monthly, or letting it build up and compound? And say you are going to take it as a lump at the end of the year, wondering if it would be better to take it on a day when the account is doing well, or on a day when it has dipped. submitted by /u/Jellodrome [link] [comments]

Hong Kong helpers urge employers to relax ‘air-con ban’ in heatwave

Domestic workers in Hong Kong are routinely banned from switching on air conditioning when working at home alone, union leaders have said, urging employers to allow helpers to use it during very hot weather. The issue surfaced last week after an employer drew widespread online criticism for scolding her domestic helper for switching on an air conditioner an hour earlier than household rules allowed, as an intense heatwave gripped the city. The Hong Kong Observatory said high temperatures would..

Japanese MP’s claim China eyes Antarctic ‘treasure trove’ dismissed

A Japanese lawmaker’s claim that China has its eyes on “a treasure trove” of resource wealth hidden beneath the Antarctic ice sheet has been dismissed by a polar law expert as a misreading of international obligations. But the claims made in parliament by Mitsuhiro Yokota, a member of the Japan Innovation Party, have also raised questions about what might happen to the world’s last great wilderness in future. “Beneath Antarctica lies a treasure trove of oil, natural gas, coal, iron ore, gold and

How Long Can Demand Destruction Keep a Lid on Oil Prices?

In a somewhat puzzling market development, oil prices haven't spiked yet to record highs amid the worst supply disruption in history. That's because the market still hopes for a quick resolution to the Strait of Hormuz crisis (for more than three months now), global inventories have offered a supply buffer, the world's top crude importer, China, is staying away from spot purchases, and last but not least, demand destruction is accelerating amid the high prices. Beyond the near-term supply chaos

About to get an inheritance. Don't wanna screw it up.

Hey all, I'm about to get an inheritance and I've never had money before. Paycheck to paycheck my entire adult life. After I've paid off all of my high interest debts, I'll likely have around 100k left. I don't want to buy any new cars/houses/anything frivolous. Ive always lived below my means out of necessity and don't plan on changing that much. I want the money to work for me so I can sleep well at night. I rent and have no intentions on buying a house anytime soon. My wife and I both have fu

Pay off heavily or invest minimally?

I recently bought an apartment and it is rented out. I have an interest rate of 3.7% and the remaining debt is around 200,000. I have 1% repayment and can make a 5% withdrawal each year (which I definitely will). I'm thinking about repaying the loan in full after five years. I want to invest the money in the following ways: Either with low risk in government bonds or some fixed-interest items Or: in various ETFs, but these have been so strong lately
