Bordering Russia, Norway adopts ‘total defence’ mode with focus on civil readiness

War is now a possibility in Norway, by the prime minister’s own admission. The country, which borders Russia, has gone into “total defence” mode, preparing its population for the worst in light of the fighting in Ukraine. Dug beneath a peaceful park, the St. Hanshaugen air raid shelter, one of Oslo’s largest, can take in 1,100 people behind its heavy metal doors if ever the worst comes to pass. The air is chilly, the lights dim, and the toilets basic: it is far from cosy, but it is designed to..

While in the real US stock exchange u need to pay interest from 5%-20% for holding short position.. How can CFD broker provide this kind of too-good-to-be-true trade ? Where they route the trade ? What exchange ? Who take the other trade ? Supposedly if a client is a good value investor, or hedge funds, he can become very profit

How does one avoid SpaceX as a passive investor?

Good morning. Like many, most of my pensions and personal investments are in global all cap index funds. With the upcoming IPO of SpaceX and the seeming likelihood it will be auto-purchased by passive investors and pensions funds, I and I am sure others would like to avoid being one of them. I do not believe it will be priced sensibly and do not want to be exposed to that eventual implosion. How do we take preventative steps? submitted by /u/josemartin2211 [link] [comments]

Student with 1/2 house, zero access and 5k in debt

Fatal subdivided flat fire highlights need to tackle substandard homes: minister

A fatal fire at a subdivided flat on Thursday has highlighted the need to eradicate substandard housing in Hong Kong, the housing minister has said, noting that affected residents had a living space of just five square metres (54 sq ft) on average. Secretary for Housing Winnie Ho Wing-yin was referring to a blaze that killed one resident and injured four others, saying it underscored the importance of the new Basic Housing Units Ordinance. “In the flat [where the tragedy occurred], each resident

Why Sara Duterte is changing her tone on Philippines’ South China Sea conflict

Philippine Vice-President Sara Duterte-Carpio has twice in recent weeks urged the country’s armed forces to defend its sovereignty, in a carefully calibrated attempt to sound more assertive on the South China Sea issue without directly challenging Beijing, according to analysts. While Duterte-Carpio did not name China, her repeated calls marked a tonal shift from her earlier approach, when she either avoided the issue or warned against letting it define Manila’s broader relationship with...

Everyone spends so little on food

Sell your child's ETF portfolio and reinvest it immediately?

Should I diversify further with a small cap ETF?

The title says mostly all. I’m currently investing in an ETF that follows a MSCI world index, invested in a single ETF only and I’ve been investing for about a year and a half now (around 1k€ monthly). I’ve been reading a lot about small cap ETF’s, especially the newer ones from Avantis. What are your opinions, should I diversify further? I don’t have a large sum invested yet (under six figures). submitted by /u/Southern-Spring-9569 [link] [comments]

As France tries to reset relations with Africa, China’s influence looms large

France has committed €23 billion (US$26.7 billion) to Africa’s private sector in a bid to counter Chinese dominance and rebuild its influence on the continent. Speaking at the Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi earlier this month, President Emmanuel Macron pitched the investment as a “jolt” to reset relations, positioning Europe as a partner for Africa’s “strategic autonomy” as the geopolitical race with Beijing heats up. The move marks a major shift as Paris tries to win over anglophone countries

Law change could require claw machines to display odds and licensee details

Hong Kong authorities will consider requiring claw machine operators to display the odds of winning, while remaining open to increasing prize values and maximum payouts under proposed changes to the regulatory regime, the home affairs minister has said. “The most important thing is to protect players and consumers, ensure they play in a safe environment, and prevent addiction,” Secretary for Home and Youth Affairs Alice Mak Mei-kuen told a radio programme on Saturday. “These are our...
