First Trump, then Putin go to China. Does great-power diplomacy now hinge on Beijing?

Despite recent back-to-back visits to Beijing by US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, no new trilateral framework or major diplomatic breakthrough has emerged. Yet, according to observers, the summits highlight Beijing’s growing ability to manage its two most important relationships on separate tracks: sustaining a deep strategic partnership with Moscow, while pursuing a more transactional, stability-focused engagement with Washington. Several analysts said the pattern

Energy Costs Are Catching Up With Big Tech

Artificial intelligence is all the rage these days, and so is its energy consumption. From a game-changing technology that would usher in a new era, AI has recently turned into a problem for many—a problem that makes electricity more expensive while, apparently, not really living up to the promise of its developers. Big Tech is still pledging tens of billions in AI spend. Now, it may have to spend a bigger portion of those billions on securing its own energy, and on proving its worth the money t

The US and its “Five Eyes” intelligence partners issued what they said was an unprecedented joint notice warning about attempts by Chinese spies to use websites such as LinkedIn to recruit assets. “China’s military intelligence services are using an increasingly wide array of professional networking sites and online job platforms to target Five Eyes government and military personnel – and anyone with access to classified or privileged information,” according to a joint statement by the FBI,...

3dSecure cannot be activated

Maybe someone here can help me, I'm a bit desperate at the moment. I would like to pay for something online using my Mastercard. For some reason it now requires confirmation via 3d-Secure for this purchase. As requested, I downloaded the Sparkasse's S-ID app. In order to get the card in there, I first have to activate the card online. I did that and received confirmation of the activation. In the meantime I have even used “Card C” again

5 lessons for Asia as it studies wars from the privilege of peace

Since the Ukraine war began in 2022, Asia has been watching conflict as if enrolled in a study course. We have watched Gaza burn. We have watched the United States capture Venezuela’s president and defend the act as lawful. We have watched Iran absorb attacks and retaliate. For Asians, these are no longer distant events.

is India actually worth the hype right now?

Been looking at India more lately and I genuinely can't tell if people are underestimating it or getting carried away. On one hand, you've got the obvious stuff: economy growing faster than most places, huge young population, manufacturing push, supply chains moving around, more global money paying attention. Easy to see the long term story. But then I look at valuations and some of this stuff feels… expensive already. Add currency risk, and the fact that every EM pitch deck now also has Vietnam

Trump says may leave UFC arena on White House lawn permanently

US President Donald Trump suggested he might keep the Ultimate Fighting Championship cage-fighting arena being built on the lawn of the White House as a permanent fixture. The Republican compared ‌the structure, which is being built for a night of cage fighting to mark the 250th anniversary of US independence – on Trump’s 80th birthday – to France’s Eiffel Tower which was supposed to have been dismantled 20 years after it was built in 1889. “We’re building something in front of the White House
