Finally, my portfolio. Roast it mercilessly. (30 y/o, 1.5M)

I’d like to submit for your critique a portfolio I’m considering for a very substantial investable net worth. Profile: 30 years old, Italian tax resident, current living expenses covered by salary, average Italian income, no major certain expenses in the near future, possible limited real estate investment in the future if I find something very attractive, long time horizon. Goal: real capital growth, gradual financial independence from work, possible future decumulation. Perceived risks: high U

Hong Kong holds off on annual LGBTQ publicity drive. Is a community being forgotten?

For the first time in a decade, a Hong Kong government task force did not conduct any publicity campaign covering gender identity and sexual orientation in the latest financial year, triggering concerns that authorities are taking a lukewarm attitude towards the local LGBTQ community. Figures from the Gender Identity and Sexual Orientation Unit (GISOU), which falls under the Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Bureau, also showed that it only received seven complaints from 2015 to 2025, a figure

China boy wants to raise silkworms to create silk quilt, prompting parents to buy 10,000 seeds

A boy in central China dreamed of making his own silk quilt, prompting his parents to buy 10,000 silkworm eggs to nurture his curiosity. In May, a mother surnamed Ruan from Wuhan, Hubei province, revealed online that her family was raising silkworms to help realise her six-year-old son’s unusual dream. Ruan told the mainland outlet Chengshi Interactive that the idea came during the silkworm-rearing season. The optimal window generally runs from May to October. The family, who raise silkworms...

Ich pendle beruflich sehr viel und habe mich deshalb vor über einem Jahr für ein Elektroauto im Leasing entschieden. Die Kosten lagen bei etwa 500 € Le

Budget cuts leave Thailand’s twin-sea navy at risk of falling behind

Thailand’s navy has to watch two seas at once. To the east lies the Gulf of Thailand, with its busy shipping lanes, offshore energy interests and long coastal frontier with Cambodia. To the west is the Andaman Sea, a gateway to the Indian Ocean with its own trade routes, chokepoints and strategic pressures. That twin-sea geography has long given the Royal Thai Navy a role larger than its public profile might suggest. It also underpins the navy’s stated goal, laid out in a 2023 white paper, to...

Generating losses to offset a large capital gain

I’ve been laid off recently and at the same time will have a large capital gains moment this year, say 500k+ in capital gains. I’m going to be getting some shares and it’s not yet known if we’ll be taxed at the moment the shares are issued or if it will be until we sell the shares. It’s probably going be a taxable event when we get the shares. So this calendar year I’m going to be in a high tax bracket probably 35 or 37% and next year I’ll probably have no ordinary income and will be living off
