What are Benefits and Downsides of a Long/Short Portfolio vs Direct Indexing?

Hi All, I am contempalting using a long short strategy or a direct indexing strategy to offset capital gains that I incur from selling naked puts daily/weekly (Usually selling Qs or IWM 2% out on most days and some for the week further out, sometimes a bit less or more depending on Vix or market events such as big earnings). The options generate an extra few % a year when selling on like 15% of the portfolio if assigned, but higher return if putting more of the portfolio at risk of being assigne

Investing as a highschooler

18f, senior in highschool about to graduate this summer. I recently started putting my money into index funds monthly, with my father matching 100% of whatever I choose to put via Robinhood (he owns a custodial account, so it's under my name and will be in my possesion once I hit 21). Currently, I'm putting about $250 monthly (with his matching it's $500 total) and splitting it using this plan: QQQ (40%)- $200, VTI (24%)- $120, VXUS (20%)- $100, SCHD (16%)- $80 Any tips for beginners? Does the Rundfunkbeitrag (Radio Tax) still make sense in the streaming era?

Recently moved to Germany from South Asia, and I’m genuinely curious about how people here view the Rundfunkbeitrag. I previously lived in the UK, so I’m familiar with public broadcasting taxes/licence-fee systems. But I still find myself conflicted about paying a mandatory fee regardless of actual usage. From an economics perspective, it feels somewhat at odds with the idea that people should broadly pay for what they consume (especially now when media is mostly subscription-driven and personal

Global crude benchmark Brent fell as much as 4.2 per cent to US$99.16 a barrel, after declining more than 5 per cent last week, while West Texas Intermediate was near US$92. European Gas Storage Can’t Survive 3 More Months of Hormuz

Europe could face a critical shortfall in natural gas stocks if shipping disruptions through the Strait of Hormuz persist for another 1-3 months, senior executives at Norwegian energy giant, Equinor ASA (NYSE:EQNR), have warned. Europe entered the current summer refill season with severely depleted gas reserves, with gas stores only 28% full following a prolonged winter. Europe’s storage levels are currently at 35-37%, significantly below the 50% seasonal norm, increasing the risk that the conti

Global tension and funding woes threaten peacekeeping missions, SIPRI warns

Geopolitical tensions and a funding crisis are jeopardising peacekeeping missions, particularly those under the auspices of the United Nations, the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) warned on Monday. Just under 79,000 international staff were deployed in international peacekeeping operations at the end of 2025, the lowest number in at least 25 years, the institute said in a report. “If things continue in this way, we could see a dramatic weakening of multilateral conflict.

Trump, Putin summits show an Eastward power shift

Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to China last week saw the signing of some 40 documents and a joint statement on strengthening the Beijing-Moscow partnership. The visit, just days after US President Donald Trump’s Beijing trip, is more than a diplomatic coincidence. It is a vivid reminder that the global order is now being shaped less by alliances than by a fluid triangle of China, the United States and Russia, with Beijing increasingly sitting at the centre. Timing is diplomacy. When..
