Bid-ask spreads for UCITS ETFs holding US equities

Conventional wisdom dictates that the bid-ask spread for a UCITS ETF traded on the LSE, that holds primarily US equities, should be lower when both the LSE and NYSE are open, and higher when only the LSE is open. I, however, found this was not the case for the AVGS UCITS ETF, around 70% of whose holdings are US equities. I recently switched from holding AVUV and AVDV in the NYSE, to AVGS in the LSE, to avoid estate tax implications in the US, and to take advantage of the accumulating nature of A

Why Equities: Bonds ratio is 60:40? But why?

I would guess that Equities swing up and down. So fixed income swings other way around and 60:40 sort of event it out. But this is a very simplified approach. I sort of expect that if equity (broad market index) cash, they will eventually come back up. So during the time between equity swing down and come back up, I need a way to withdraw funds without selling equities. It is also expected that if equities crash, feds eventually (1 year from the crash) will come to the rescue and try to lower in

Oil Prices Plunge as U.S. and Iran Reach Deal to Reopen Strait of Hormuz

Oil prices plunged in early Monday trading in Asia after the U.S. and Iran announced a deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz more than 100 days after its closure. At the time of writing, Brent crude had dropped 3.95% to trade at $83.88 per barrel, while WTI had fallen 4.62% to $80.96 per barrel. Oil prices, which peaked in mid-May, have been slowly but surely trending downward in recent weeks on rumors of a deal, even after multiple escalatory strikes. The boy from central China’s Henan province was admitted to the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University recently. Baby bonus to continue? We’ll consult widely, John Lee says

The Hong Kong government will conduct a consultation on its slew of pro-baby incentives amid persistently low birth rates, Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu has said, noting that delayed marriage and cultural shifts are limiting the effectiveness of such policies. The number of registered births in Hong Kong hit a historic low of 31,100 in 2025, despite a range of government initiatives aimed at boosting the city’s fertility rate. The HK$20,000 (US$2,552) newborn baby bonus, introduced in 2023,..

If the Iran War is Over, Will there Be No More Reasons to Rally?

The market was stagnate and flat for months before the Iran war due to low chances of rate cuts. Even analysts believed that the market would stagnate or underperform this year originally. There was originally a sharp sell off when war broke out due to uncertainty of the strait never being closed but quickly reversed on ceasefire news. So if the economic situation is even worse now, no rate cuts this year and a potential rate hike, higher inflation with a steady job market. If it’s not for const

Japan’s train gropers still prowl as women-only carriages turn 25

Mariko was a teenager the day she found herself alone in a near-empty carriage with a man who sat across from her, exposed himself and began to masturbate. Terrified that fleeing or crying out might provoke something worse, she fixed her gaze elsewhere and waited for the next station. “There was nothing I could do,” said Mariko, now 33, who asked that her family name not be published. “I was terrified that he might attack me, so I kept quiet.” The memory has never entirely left her. It still...

How to (Profitably) Trade Trumps Tweets

Unfortunately this can be a viable strategy lol. President Donald Trump's investment accounts made nearly 4,000 individual stock trades during the first quarter of the year. This averaged out to about 65 trades per business day. There is no reason you cant capitalize on this yourself. Heres a guide on what I do myself to trade Trumps Tweets and everything you should know. You need to be fast to catch the tweet, and determine which securities will be impacted. Would love some feedback on my stock portfolio - heavy on tech, open to criticism

I’ve been building this portfolio over the past few years and would genuinely appreciate some outside perspective. Here’s where I currently stand: NVDA - 43.65% SPMO - 16.34% TSLA - 10.14% AVGO - 8.52 % AMZN - 5.59% GOOG - 5.66% SCHD - 4.61 % FDMO - 2.12% FTIHX - 1.96% FBCG - 1.36% How concerned should I be about the NVDA concentration at this level? Would you trim or rebalance, or stay the course given the AI tailwinds? Anything obviously missing or redundant in this mix? I’m a long term invest

Tell me about your non-traditional investments.

Not the stock market. Maybe you have a small real estate investment, your education, you health, hell even your kids. What are you doing that hope pays off down the line? Charlie Munger says you can triple your investment (presumably in your home) by planting trees at home and working on your landscaping. Basically focusing on the long term curb appeal. I've gotten the gardening bug and I find it to be therapeutic, and I'm out digging in the dirt, both of which has got to be good for my health.

Time for US wishful thinking on North Korean denuclearisation is over

Chinese President Xi Jinping’s recent Pyongyang visit may ultimately be remembered as a turning point in the international debate over North Korea’s nuclear weapons. While most headlines focused on the visit’s timing and the many pledges made by the two leaders aimed at expanding cooperation, the most significant development may have been what was left unsaid. Throughout the visit, neither side publicly referenced the denuclearisation issue. On the contrary, Xi called for expanded cooperation in
