North Korea’s premier heads to China for defence treaty anniversary as allies extend thaw

North Korean Premier Pak Thae-song will arrive in China on Friday for a three-day trip to mark the anniversary of a friendship treaty between the two countries, in another sign of improving ties between the two traditional allies. This year is the 65th anniversary of the signing of the China-North Korea Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation, and Mutual Assistance, Beijing’s only formal defence pact, and Pak will be at the head of a party and government delegation. “China and North Korea are...

Oil Price Surge Shows Markets Were Too Relaxed About Iran Deal

Wednesday’s jump in oil prices to a two-week high suggests that market participants were too complacent about the U.S.-Iran ‘deal to make a deal’ and that the ceasefire would hold and oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz would only increase, analysts at ING said on Thursday. Oil prices surged by over 5% on Wednesday, gaining 7% at one point to a two-week high, after the escalation in the region. Buy a car or lease another through a company?

I'm currently leasing a car through AG for 0.5% of the list price - all inclusive, just put the car back in the yard and get a new one. Refueling/charging costs a flat rate of €100 per month. All-in ~€500 from the net. Now I'm wondering whether buying would be cheaper. For example, there is a Caddy Maxi Style, 15k down, one year old, 41k. If I invest the money in the all world, the calculated return after taxes would be €200. Refueling would then be more like €100 more than the flat rate. Copilot says depreciation, insurance

US-Iran ceasefire collapse revives risks of global inflation

China called on the United States and Iran to stick with peace plans after a resumption of missile strikes in the Middle East spurred a jump in oil prices. “Reigniting the conflict does not serve any party’s interests,” a spokesman for China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Wednesday. “We call on the US and Iran to follow through on their memorandum of understanding, resolve disputes through dialogue and negotiation, and avoid resorting to force.” Brent crude, the global oil benchmark, rose

Indonesia blocks 4.8 million underage social media accounts but are kids any safer?

Indonesia’s attempt to keep children aged under 16 off social media platforms deemed high risk has quickly become one of the world’s biggest tests of online safety regulation, with more than 4.8 million suspected underage accounts removed or deactivated in the first three months of enforcement. For President Prabowo Subianto’s government, the figures are an early sign that major platforms are falling in line with its policy aimed at making the digital world safer for children.
