China’s Crude Imports Plunge To Lowest Level Since 2018

Oil prices remain headline-driven, taking direction from escalation and de-escalation in the U.S-Iran conflict in the near term. The first round of talks between the United States and Iran in Switzerland has concluded with positive comments from both sides, and an agreement to push for a final agreement within 60 days. However, there's considerable scepticism about whether more complex issues around nuclear technology and transit through the Strait of Hormuz can be fully resolved in the short ti

Bitcoin still in free fall - still under €50,000 this week?

While World ETFs produce very solid returns year on year (the Grail is +26% in the 1-year period), Bitcoin continues to fall. The price is currently €52,000. For comparison: 5 years ago (!) the price was temporarily higher than it is now. Inflation is not even taken into account. Even Dirk Müller can't achieve such negative returns! I've always found Bitcoin to be fun play money. It's clear to everyone that Bitcoin is actually worthless, but sometimes you just want a little

Norway's Oil Output Beats Forecasts Again Despite Pullback from April Highs

Norwegian petroleum production eased in May after April's exceptionally strong performance, but the country's offshore sector continued to outperform expectations. Crude oil production came in 7.2% above official forecasts even as both oil and gas output declined from the previous month, reinforcing Norway's position as one of Europe's most reliable energy suppliers. Norway produced an average of 1.722 million barrels of crude oil per day in May, according to preliminary figures from the Norwegi

Brazil detains Spanish woman for racism, in latest high-profile arrest

Brazil’s federal police detained a Spanish citizen in Sao Paulo’s international Guarulhos airport for racism on Wednesday, the latest in a series of high-profile arrests of foreign tourists on similar grounds. Brazil has some of the strictest anti-racism laws in Latin America. Insulting a person on the basis of race carries a penalty of imprisonment from two to five years and a fine. The crew of a Latam airlines flight arriving from the northeastern city of Sao Luis called police, who arrested..

Investing for minors: 529 accts canNOT hold individual stocks directly; what about ETFs?

The 529 plans with which I'm familiar only allow investments in Mutual Funds -- and only certain 529-tailored funds at that. At the other end of the spectrum, there seems to be a universal prohibition against buying individual stocks in those accounts. In between are Exchange-Traded Funds. It's not clear if I can buy any old ETF that I like inside a 529 acct, or only a curated subset of them. Need advice from those who've trodden this path before me. submitted by /u/DeeDee_Z [link] [comments]

Trump’s name is gone from the Kennedy Centre. Why is the tarp still up?

A US federal judge asked on Wednesday for an explanation for why a tarpaulin continues to cover the facade of the Kennedy Centre where President Donald Trump’s name was recently removed. District Judge Christopher Cooper gave the board of trustees of the performing arts venue until the end of July to explain “the purpose for and status of the tarp and scaffolding that defendants have erected on the front portico of the centre”. Trump’s name was removed from the Kennedy Centre on the orders of...

Trade Is Slowly Opening One of the World's Most Isolated Nations

Azerbaijan is working hard to coax Turkmenistan out of its shell and integrate Ashgabat into trans-Caspian trade routes. Azerbaijani leader Ilham Aliyev exchanged a variety of trade-related agreements with Turkmenistan’s titular head of state, Serdar Berdymukhamedov, during a June 22 ceremony in Baku. A joint statement issued after the ceremony highlighted an agreement to streamline “technical specifications” concerning the movement of goods and vehicles between the two countries, and another to

French woman rescued in Pakistan after husband allegedly held her captive for 12 years

Pakistan police said on Wednesday that they had rescued a French woman and her five children after she told authorities she had been held captive by her husband for more than a decade and subjected to years of domestic abuse in the country’s northwest. The woman, identified as 54-year-old Sylvie Yasmina, was rescued earlier this week from a mud-brick home in Bara, a town in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province near the Afghan border, district police chief Waqar Ahmad said. He said Yasmina’s husband,...
