Hong Kong exports rise by nearly 41% in May as AI keeps fuelling demand

The recent bumper growth in Hong Kong exports spilled into May, expanding by 40.8 per cent year on year, as artificial intelligence-related products continued to fuel already robust demand overseas. Provisional figures released by the Census and Statistics Department on Thursday showed that the total value of exports rose to HK$611.2 billion (US$77.95 billion) last month, following a nearly 43 per cent increase in April. The May figure marked the second month in a row that export growth exceeded

Extremely concerned about the Fed's rate hike

Hey guys, I'm growing extremely concerned that the Feds certainly will hike rate this year. Back in 2022, I didn't understand why stock markets were so bad. It was mostly because the Fed hiked rate too much in a year. Now Kevin Warsh's hawkish stance on inflation makes me feel so uneasy. If they hike rate 2 or 3 times this year, that would certainly destroy this bull market. What do you think? Are you fully invested? Or keep cash ? I think I'll aggressively trim my accounts in July. submitted by

Is investors’ love affair with India ending?

In July 2024, India’s weight in the MSCI Emerging Markets Index, a leading gauge of stocks in developing economies, hit a record high of 19.99 per cent. At the time, this was less than three percentage points below China’s weight, which at one point was as high as 43 per cent. Between 2022 and 2024, India was the darling of emerging market equity investors. The combination of the country’s fast-growing economy, strong corporate earnings, the Covid-19 pandemic-induced boom in retail trading and..

Trump Singles Out Exxon, Chevron, Shell, and BP Over High Gas Prices

President Donald Trump has listed Exxon, Chevron, Shell, and BP as being among companies responsible for excessively high fuel prices, following the announcement of a federal government probe into price-gouging earlier in the week. “Oil prices have come down so much and we are not seeing anything at the pump by comparison the way they should be,” the U.S. president told media, as quoted by the BBC. “We should be, in my opinion, at $2.25 [a gallon] right now at the pump and we are higher than tha

Dissolve Union Depot and transfer it to scalable?

Hello friends, when I was 16 years old, I was talked into a Union pension depot at the bank. Now I'm thinking about breaking this down and transferring it to my scalable. However, Dahme at the bank said that if I did that, my “subsidy” from the state would be deducted. Is that correct ? And would it make sense to transfer it anyway? I would invest the money in the positions that already exist. submitted by /u/Own_Cupcake2704 [link] [comments]

Could China’s photonic chips help it leapfrog US on AI?

China opened a top-level optical computing laboratory in Shanghai in June after a string of breakthroughs in the field that could help get around US curbs on its development of artificial intelligence (AI). A decade after optical computing and next-generation photonics were made national priorities, China last year began limited production of locally designed photonic chips. These transmit and process data using photons – particles of light generated by lasers – whereas silicon chips such as the

Huawei and Cambricon lead China’s AI server chip surge, piling pressure on Nvidia

Chinese chip suppliers led by Huawei Technologies and Cambricon Technologies, together with tech giants developing their own silicon, are set to capture nearly 80 per cent of the domestic AI server market this year, further squeezing global rivals such as Nvidia, according to TrendForce. Geopolitical tensions continue to erode the position of Nvidia, Advanced Micro Devices and other foreign suppliers, whose combined share of China’s AI server market is forecast to fall to 21 per cent in 2026...

As US wavers, ex-minister says Japan and South Korea ‘only have each other’

Japan and South Korea should build a stronger security alliance to anchor regional stability as US commitment to East Asia becomes less certain, former Japanese foreign and defence minister Taro Kono said on Wednesday. “I think it is indispensable for peace and stability for East Asia that Japan and Korea create a very strong security alliance, not just the economy. Japan and Korea need to sit down and discuss security in the region,” Kono said during the “Asia-Pacific in the age of American...

For the first time I have a little more money available. What now?!

A few years ago my father bought me a car and I paid it off in small, ridiculous installments. Now I'm going to sell it because I drive a company car and 2 cars for one person just costs money. Hopefully I will get around 13 - 15 K€ and plus the 6K€ that I have put aside, I will soon have more money than ever in my life. Now I'm looking for an initial idea of what I should do best with the money. I want a part
