The world’s largest buyer of biopharmaceutical royalties has set up its first Asia-Pacific base in Hong Kong, joining a string of multinational corporations in the pharmaceutical sector establishing offices in the city as out-licensing deals by mainland Chinese biotechnology firms hit record highs. Royalty financing gives drug developers an alternative way to raise capital even as US investment restrictions loom, according to an expert. “Chinese biotech firms would need royalty financing as an..

How Philippine ube farming can cash in on ‘purple gold rush’

Esmeraldo Maligsa, a farmer and president of the Bohol Ube Growers Association, harvests 2,000kg (4,400lbs) of ube, the purple tuber native to the Philippines, every seven months. He and the other farmers in his group manage a collective yield of between 5 tonnes and 8 tonnes, fetching prices of 90 to 100 pesos (US$1.50 to US$1.70) per kg. Hong Kong has surrendered its IPO fundraising crown to Nasdaq following SpaceX’s blockbuster listing earlier this month, but it did so while seeing its IPO proceeds register a year-on-year rise of about 84 per cent in the first half of 2026 – consolidating the region’s position as a primary offshore financial hub for Chinese issuers. A total of 83 companies raised US$26.42 billion on the Hong Kong stock exchange’s main board from January to June, according to LSEG Data & Analytics. The figure,..

Just how far are China’s local officials going in falsifying performance data?

Beijing has publicised three cases of local governments falsifying achievements to boost their records, which involved manipulating revenue data, misusing special-purpose government bonds and concealing off-balance-sheet debt. Chinese state news agency Xinhua reported on Sunday that a central working group and the Communist Party’s top anti-corruption watchdog had announced cases highlighting typical misconduct in official duties and performance evaluations. The announcement came from the...

i've been using earnings date as an automatic position review trigger and it's helped me avoid a lot of unnecessary holds

this sounds obvious but it wasn't obvious to me when i started swing trading i used to enter a swing trade and just manage it based on price action. set a stop, let it run, trail the stop when it worked. didn't really think about the calendar except to avoid buying right into earnings the problem is that a lot of my positions were getting held too long not because the trade was working but because i didn't have a forcing function to review them. position goes flat for 3 weeks, stop never gets hi

Any downside to "tax-exempt" money market funds like MCSXX or FFTXX?

I'm wondering just generally if they come with more risk than the treasury or repo-backed ones. Does the NAV stay reliably pegged at $1? Do they have more uneven returns because they are muni-backed? But if you want the context, you can keep reading: I currently use TTTXX for my money market fund, because it is state-tax exempt. However, I'm in the 32% marginal federal bracket, 9.3% in my state, and my gains are subject to NIIT as well of 3.8%. The tax-exempt funds MCSXX and FFTXX both yield ~2.
