The People Who Have Influenced Me in Investing

I have been investing for 11 years now. But I owe a lot of the progress I've made to these people: Charles Ellis (Winning the Loser's Game) The comparison of tennis to the game of investing really stuck with me. In professional tennis, the winner is the one with the winning shots. In amateur tennis, the winner is the one who makes fewer mistakes and returns the balls. So I learned that, as an amateur investor, the goal is to minimize costs, taxes, and fees. I learned that index funds are the gam

When and how will China ease capital controls?

The China Securities Regulatory Commission recently fined three Hong Kong brokerages – Tiger Brokers, Futu Securities International and Longbridge Securities – over US$330 million for offering mainland investors access to overseas stocks without authorisation. This should not be misconstrued as a move to discourage overseas investment. It is merely an attempt to discourage mainland investors from illegal channels that violate China’s capital controls. This is evidenced by the fact that the...

Are Guys also tired of generic AI giving you absolute diabolical wrong answers about your 10K??

So as you can read from the Header that AI is now everybody's go to tool to get through 10-K and so every time I do this I always reverify the data and questions I asked because let's be honest AI is good but not perfect and it does hallucinates numbers pretty much once I started noticing it is quite obvious so I ask it to give me the citations and then the page number is incorrect or the paragraph is off or the AI just couldn't corelate data and don't get me started on the tables part. China aims to ‘infiltrate’ US-Mexico-Canada trade deal, says American manufacturing group

China is trying to “infiltrate” the US-Mexico-Canada trade agreement via Mexican automotive investments, a US manufacturing trade group said, as Washington indicated it would not renew the agreement that comes up for review this month. However, analysts cautioned that full decoupling from China’s automotive industry remains difficult, given North America’s continued dependence on Chinese-sourced motor vehicle components and Mexico’s legacy of export manufacturing plus quick access to the US...

India Fast-Tracks State Company Stake Sales to Cover Oil Shock Costs

India is accelerating a plan to sell stakes in major state-held companies as it looks to raise billions of U.S. dollars to plug the gap left by the oil shock from the Strait of Hormuz closure. The Indian government has identified eight state-owned companies in which it would seek stake sales in the coming months, including in major insurers and banks, sources with knowledge of the plan told Bloomberg on Thursday. The proceeds from the stake sales could be worth $1 billion each for some of the bi

Can Malaysia’s unity government survive a major BN win in state polls?

Knife-edge state polls in Johor and Negeri Sembilan may reconfigure Malaysian politics, as a regrouped Malay nationalist right seeks big wins to pressure Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim into calling an early election. Barisan Nasional (BN), the Malay-led bloc, is going head-to-head against Anwar’s Pakatan Harapan (PH) in the ballots to be held this month and next, in a move by a key government coalition member that could destabilise the prime minister’s fragile administration from within. Analysts.

Thailand says photo of Macron kneeling before King Vajiralongkorn is AI-generated

Thailand’s foreign ministry denied on Thursday that French President Emmanuel Macron knelt before the country’s king during his state visit to Paris this week, after an AI-generated picture circulated online. King Maha Vajiralongkorn and Queen Suthida’s trip was the first official visit by a Thai monarch to France since 1960, marking the 170th anniversary of formal diplomatic relations between the two nations. During a state dinner at the presidential palace, Macron presented the 73-year-old...

SaaS sector fell below market valuation for the first time on record. Breaking down which names are actually cheap vs. just lower priced.

Hi r/investing, I'm the GM of the stock research side at Obermatt, a Swiss investment research firm that ranks stocks across 60+ markets on four factors (Value, Growth, Safety, Sentiment) relative to industry peers. Standard disclosure: this is our own research, sharing it here because I think the framework is useful for this community, not to sell anything. The AI-driven selloff pushed the entire SaaS sector below the broad market on forward earnings for the first time on record. That's a meani
