China’s influence on African ports extends to software, automation and AI: study

Chinese firms not only operate, finance or hold stakes in about one third of all ports in Africa, but Beijing now also controls the software, automation and artificial intelligence (AI) tools that run the infrastructure. And that reach extends well beyond the docks, with Beijing financing and operating the road, rail and warehousing networks connected to these ports and other maritime projects across the continent, closely intertwining African trade with China’s own trading systems. These are...

Pope visits Africa-Europe crossing as anti-migrant policies rise in US, EU

Pope Leo on Saturday visited Italy’s Lampedusa island, a major port of call for migrants risking the perilous crossing from Africa, in a stark message to US and EU leaders. Leo’s visit also comes just two weeks after the European Union’s approval of new migrant...

Blaming China won’t bring jobs back to ‘post-industrial’ economies

Almost anywhere you look these days, you can find claims from political, academic and other various sources that China’s supposed overproduction and exports of manufactured goods pose unfair advantages. These sources may also claim such unfair advantages justify protectionist countermeasures. But it is difficult to counter one’s own folly. For decades, the US, much of Europe and even Japan, long proud of its manufacturing skills, have prided themselves on becoming “post-industrial” and...

Money Market Funds - cannot understand if I like them

I have around one year of expenses in a Tagesgeld with N26 but as they did not move the interest rate even with the latest ECB increase I am considering moving some or all of it. Easiest logistical piece would be the Flexible Cash Fund they offer up to 2.29% however the more I read around MMF the less I trust them. How is the sub around MMFs? Do you use them? Should I just open yet another bank account to still use Tagesgeld but with better conditions? (I have a DKB, N26, Degiro and Scalable but
