What’s the next high risk-high reward investment?

A few years back, I remember reading that ~5% of your investment portfolio should be in something that’s high risk-high reward, so that if it doesn’t pay out, no big deal since it’s only 5%, but could be meaningful if it does pay off. It seemed like bitcoin was that for a long time. I know it’s down 40% for last 12 months.. but even if it recovers, it doesn’t seem like it’d have a run like previous ones. If not bitcoin, what’s that next investment? submitted by /u/Tiny-Tumbleweed-4432 [link] [co

What’s with the stigma around stock picking?

I've been noticing that some people get genuinely upset whenever anyone mentions picking individual stocks. What's up with that? Most active investors underperform over the long run. Sure. Risk-adjusted, most underperform too. Also sure. But why does that make stock picking itself something people get hostile about? I feel like if this sub had its way, people like Buffett, Peter Lynch, or Jim Simons would've been told to stop wasting their time and just buy VOO. Obviously they're outliers. But t

Before we hail Hong Kong cinema’s return, let’s ensure its survival

The Furious, Hong Kong’s latest action flick, is crushing it on Rotten Tomatoes and has garnered critical acclaim abroad – proof of what human-centric filmmaking can still deliver in today’s market. But before we rush to hail the return of Hong Kong cinema, a new breed of drama factory is quietly generating content at a velocity no human team could ever match. In mainland China, micro dramas generated by artificial intelligence (AI) have turned the industry upside down. A production schedule...

Planning to get married – how do you manage your finances, portfolio and assets in your marriage?

Hello everyone, I am currently 25 years old and am planning to propose to my girlfriend in January next year. Then we would have been together for almost three years. We've been living together for about a year and four months and so far our relationship has been really harmonious. Of course no one can predict the future, but I can very well imagine a long-term marriage with her. Nevertheless, I have recently been thinking about the topic of finances in marriage

‘A true man’: Chinese boy touches hearts by promoting single mum’s small recycling business

A young boy from central China went viral after proudly promoting his burn-survivor mother’s street stall during a chance visit to a university football pitch. On June 28, eight-year-old Chunchun from Zhengzhou, Henan province, accompanied his mother to a local campus where he joined a casual football game. Noticing students holding empty drink bottles, he stepped forward and, in full view of the crowd, began introducing his mother’s recycling business. “My mum was badly burned. We collect...

Taiwan revives ‘anti-communist’ training for its military graduates after 24 years

Taiwan has revived its “anti-communist patriotic education” programme for military academy graduates, reflecting growing concern over Beijing’s efforts to infiltrate the island’s armed forces after a string of espionage cases involving service members. The compulsory five-day course, held from July 1 for graduates of Taiwan’s eight military academies, restores the programme’s original name after a 24-year hiatus. Introduced in 1965, the programme was renamed “patriotic education” in 2002 but has

North Korea makes play for spot in China-Russia drills with missile test

Kim Jong-un stood on a cliff top and watched his navy come of age. As the North Korean leader looked on, 10 cruise missiles tore off the deck of the Kang Kon in rapid succession in a display of naval power Pyongyang could once only dream of staging. Analysts say the weapons test on Friday was no accident of timing – coming just days before Russia and China would begin their Joint Sea 2026 maritime exercise off Qingdao – and North Korea wanted to make sure everyone was watching. “North Korea is..

Anyone else see LandBridge($LB) as an opportunity?

It’s a baby $TPL that just had 80% FCF margins last quarter and 90% EBITDA margins. They have a FWD PE of 34, and this is before any data center agreements, which will be a huge win for them long term. They will collect royalties from all of different use cases on their land. These agreements will be set up so that as the data center uses more power, they collect more royalties from the power being used and the water to cool these data centers. submitted by /u/Kratos5017 [link] [comments]

Why Abu Dhabi Is Building the World's First Integrated Energy-AI Economy

For decades, countries have been competing by setting up larger energy sectors, deeper ports, or stronger digital economies. That era is ending. The emerging global economy, even if it being fractured, is no longer defined by excellence in individual sectors but by the ability to integrate them into a single strategic ecosystem. Energy powers artificial intelligence, AI optimizes logistics, while maritime infrastructure enables both physical and digital trade. Few governments have fully grasped
