China’s Wang Yi to test whether transatlantic turmoil can soften Europe’s Nordic hawks

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi kicks off a rare tour of Europe’s Nordic countries on Thursday, as Beijing tests whether it can use shifting geopolitical sands to find openings among some of the bloc’s most China-critical governments. The veteran diplomat will be in Denmark on Thursday and Friday for a series of meetings with Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen and a personal audience with King Frederik. In Stockholm he will meet Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and Foreign Minister...

‘Massive’ Russian missile and drone barrage pounds Ukraine capital

Russian missile and drone strikes rocked Kyiv early Thursday, killing two people and wounding more than a dozen, after President Volodymyr Zelensky warned that Moscow was preparing a “massive attack”. Russia has routinely launched waves of missiles and drones at Ukrainian cities, including Kyiv, during its more than four-year invasion, which has become Europe’s deadliest conflict since World War II. The attack came after Ukraine’s air force warned that ballistic missiles were headed towards the.

Japan’s detention system under scrutiny after ruling on abuse of restraints

A court order requiring Japan’s government to compensate the family of a Peruvian man who sustained a broken arm at an immigration facility has intensified scrutiny of the country’s detention system, with rights experts saying the case shows reforms are urgently needed. On June 25, the Osaka High Court ordered the government to pay 880,000 yen (US$5,400) in damages to the family of Vladimir Burgos Fujii, a Peruvian man of Japanese descent, who was injured while being restrained at the facility..

Investing in VTI over FZILX for dividends? Or vice versa for zero-expense ratio.

I've got a RothIRA at Fidelity, and I've invested in the fidelity zero expense ratio Mutual Funds, FZILX and FZROX, as well as Vanguard's corresponding ETFs, VXUS and VTI, which do have minor expense ratios (0.05% and 0.03%). Fidelity's Zero MFs do not distribute dividends, whereas Vanguard's do. From my understanding, these positions basically travel in lock-step(FZILX and VXUS, and FZROX and VTI), and are predicted to give the same return. Makes sense, since they try to capture the same thing,

Europe’s Nuclear Ambitions Drive New Interest in Italian Uranium Exploration

A firm planning to mine uranium in northern Italy has drawn up plans for a London float as it seeks to capitalise on renewed interest in nuclear technology. Continentale Rente Invest - cancel or how to proceed?

Hello everyone, I have set up a fund for myself in 2021. Have private pension insurance persuaded by our dear friends at tecis. In principle, at least it wasn't a bad product, but at the time I wasn't really aware of the high closing costs. I save 2 ETFs and 2 funds (5% issuing fee). Monthly savings rates have averaged 250 euros in recent years. The current redemption value is 9500 euros. With the new retirement savings account and the fact that I don't have a B

Is talk of a balanced trade balance a myth?

I have often heard that countries should have a balanced trade balance. But isn't the whole of Europe based on the principle of constant trade surpluses? The Economist also states very clearly that Europe has a “surplus economy”. The only countries that do not always have trade surpluses, such as France, are struggling with economic problems. And even if you look outside Europe, all economies are highly developed countries that do not rely on their wealth as a resource
