17. School Law Amendment Act
At the request of the FDP parliamentary group, the state parliament voted on the 17th School Law Amendment Act, also called the "Law to Secure Comprehensive Educational Offers and to Strengthen the Quality of Schools". The central innovations contained in the draft law are, on the one hand, that secondary schools should be able to provide a secondary school branch from the 5th grade onwards and that Islamic religious education will be extended until July 31, 2031 in cooperation with Islamic organizations. On the other hand, schools' reporting obligations should be shortened from annual to a five-year period and school management should be given more autonomy in planning further training for teachers. The responsible committee for schools and education recommended that the bill be passed unchanged. The bill was approved with 93 votes in favor and 60 against. There were no abstentions.
