Measures against rising oil and gas prices
In an urgent motion, the SPD parliamentary group is calling on the Bavarian state government to advocate measures at the federal level against sharply rising oil, gas and fuel prices. The background is the price increases as a result of the conflict in the Middle East and the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. According to the applicants, the Federal Cartel Office should examine whether the high prices can still be explained by actual procurement costs or whether oil companies are exploiting their market power. If the suspicion is confirmed, the SPD is calling for the introduction of an excess profits tax for oil companies. The income should be used for social relief, such as heating and fuel costs. In addition, antitrust measures should be strengthened to ensure competition on the energy and fuel markets. At the same time, it is emphasized that possible measures must not endanger climate protection. Instead of weakening existing climate protection instruments, the energy and transport transition should be further accelerated. The emergency motion was rejected with 105 votes against, 11 in favor and 21 abstentions.
