Essential content

The Hessian state parliament voted on an amendment from the ALLIANCE 90/THE GREENS parliamentary group to the 2026 budget law. The application relates to the education budget and aims to prevent planned cuts to integrated comprehensive schools. Specifically, additional funds are to be made available to avoid the loss of around 90 teaching positions. According to the applicants, these cuts would particularly affect schools with heterogeneous student bodies that rely on additional support. Without the additional positions, offers such as individual support, flexible forms of learning or targeted support for high-performing and needy students could be limited. The amendment therefore proposes to increase the corresponding resources in the budget in order to secure the existing structures in the schools and to continue the previous educational policy measures. The amendment was rejected by 96 votes against to 30 votes in favor.
