Transfer application for the Brandenburg Property Tax Assessment Act
The AfD parliamentary group has submitted a draft of the Brandenburg Property Tax Assessment Act to the state parliament. According to the so-called federal model, each municipality must apply a uniform tax rate (“assessment rate”) to property tax, regardless of whether it concerns residential buildings or commercially used properties. The new draft law now stipulates that municipalities will be allowed to set different property tax rates for residential buildings and other properties not used for residential purposes. This is intended to balance out unequal burdens between private homeowners and businesses. A vote was taken to refer the draft bill to the Budget and Finance Committee for leadership and to the Interior and Municipal Affairs Committee for consultation. The transfer request was rejected with 41 votes against, 40 votes in favor and one abstention.
