Protect the rule of law and democracy
The state parliament passed a motion by the SPD and Die Linke parliamentary groups in a roll-call vote in which it resolutely condemns racism, violence, hate speech and discrimination and affirms respect for human dignity and the free-democratic basic order. The background is the peak in politically motivated crime in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, in particular the increasing threat from right-wing extremist crimes and violent structures. In this context, the state parliament also refers to the investigations against the suspected right-wing terrorist group “Last Defense Wave” and thanks civil society initiatives and the state police for their commitment to democracy and security. At the same time, the decision takes up the classification of the AfD by the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution as a confirmed right-wing extremist effort. This assessment should be taken into account in further constitutional steps such as a possible ban on parties or the withdrawal of state funding. The state government is called upon to examine, together with the federal and state governments, the consequences for AfD members in the public service, to coordinate an approach that is as uniform and legally secure as possible, and to continue to effectively support democracy promotion and civil society projects. Der Antrag wurde mit 40 Ja-Stimmen zu 24 Nein-Stimmen bei sieben Enthaltungen angenommen .
