Continuation of the Bundeswehr mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina (EUFOR ALTHEA)
The federal government has submitted a proposal that envisages the continuation of the participation of armed German forces in the EU-led EUFOR ALTHEA mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina until June 2026. The existing mandate was last extended on June 27, 2024 by a roll-call vote. Up to 50 soldiers will continue to be sent in the future to help create a safe and stable environment on site and to coordinate the training of the Bosnian-Herzegovinian armed forces. In the application, the federal government estimates the additional expenditure related to the operation to be around 11.6 million euros. There was a corresponding resolution recommendation from the Foreign Affairs Committee for the application, which recommended its acceptance. The recommendation for a resolution was voted on by name. The Budget Committee also submitted a report stating that the application was compatible with the federal budget situation. The recommendation for a resolution and thus the federal government's proposal were accepted with 386 yes votes to 187 no votes with four abstentions.
