Essential content

The state parliament voted on a proposal from the FDP parliamentary group. In it, the parliamentary group calls for all patrol officers to be equipped with Tasers. Currently, only 18 of the 47 county police departments have Tasers. The FDP sees this as unequal treatment of civil servants. The parliamentary group sees itself supported by the positively evaluated pilot phase in North Rhine-Westphalia and the Federal Greens' approval of Federal Interior Minister Dobrindt's plans to equip the federal police with Tasers. The application was rejected with 92 votes against. 20 MPs from the FDP and AfD voted in favor. 46 SPD MPs abstained. Contrary to his group, Andreas Keith-Volkmer (AfD) voted against the motion.
