Changes to state treaties under media law and reform of public broadcasting
The Hamburg parliament has voted on a bill presented by the Hamburg Senate, which is intended to implement two state treaties to reform public broadcasting. The resolution approves the ratification of the Sixth Media Amendment State Treaty and the Reform State Treaty. The aim of the reform is to adapt public broadcasting more closely to digital use, to bundle structures and make them more efficient, and to increase acceptance among the population. This includes, among other things, changes to the mission, organization and financing of broadcasters. At the same time, the law creates the legal prerequisites so that the international treaties can come into force after the consent of all states and then also apply in Hamburg. The law was passed in the second reading with 99 votes in favor and eight against.
