New regulations to protect travelers
The EU Parliament has decided on its negotiating position on the reform of the package travel directive in a roll-call vote. The aim is to better protect travelers in the future if trips are canceled due to unforeseeable events or tour operators go bankrupt. It should be regulated more clearly when you can cancel free of charge, for example in the event of official travel warnings, and that customers get their money back in such cases. The handling of vouchers should also be revised. Consumers should have the right to reject them; they must be valid for up to one year and paid out when they expire. The updates are also intended to clarify what exactly is meant by the term “package trip”. Attention: The voting results shown on the right only reflect the voting behavior of the 96 German MEPs and not that of all 720 MEPs. The resolution was adopted overall with 535 yes votes to 36 no votes and 47 abstentions. Of the German MEPs, 66 voted for and 17 against. There was one abstention from Angelika Niebler.
