Health resorts in crisis

AntragrejectedSubmitted: October 29, 2025Vote: October 29, 2025
Essential content

The state parliament in Bavaria has rejected a proposal from the AfD parliamentary group entitled “Spa resorts in crisis”. The application asks the state government to examine whether certain municipal expenditures can be classified differently. This is about the costs that arise for a place to be recognized as a spa or recreational resort. The background is that smaller health resorts in particular are increasingly having financial problems. The requirements for recognition as a health resort come with many costs. The AfD parliamentary group demands that these expenses no longer be classified as “voluntary benefits” but as “indispensable benefits”. This means that municipalities would have to continue to plan for these costs even if there were austerity measures. This is intended to provide financial security for the broad landscape of spa and recreational resorts in Bavaria. The application was rejected with 102 votes against. 25 MPs voted yes, there were no abstentions.
