Essential content

The state parliament in Bavaria has rejected a proposal from the ALLIANCE 90/THE GREENS faction to combat anti-Semitism in schools. The application called on the government to carry out a representative study on anti-Semitic incidents in Bavarian schools in collaboration with a qualified survey institute. The aim is to record reliable figures on the type and frequency of anti-Semitic incidents, the prevailing narratives, the origin of these narratives and the regional distribution as well as school-specific abnormalities. Based on the data, schools and regions in which increased incidents occur should then receive targeted support in prevention and intervention. The background to the application is the increase in anti-Semitic crimes and acts of violence, especially after the terrorist attack by Hamas on October 7, 2023 and the war in Gaza. The applicants hope for the greatest possible success through prevention work in schools, as young people usually do not yet have a closed worldview. The application was rejected with 106 votes against. 32 MPs voted yes, there were no abstentions.
