Budget of the Federal Chancellor and the Federal Chancellery 2026
The major general debate on government policy also took place as part of the four-day final consultations on the 2026 federal budget. In the subsequent roll-call vote, the Bundestag adopted the budget of the Federal Chancellor and the Federal Chancellery (sectional plan 04) in a roll-call vote. The budget should therefore amount to 5.0 billion euros for 2026, around 100 million euros more than originally planned. The Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and Media, Wolfram Weimer, should be able to spend 2.2 billion euros, almost 200 million more than in 2025. At 18.3 million euros, the resources of the Federal Government Commissioner for East Germany, Elisabeth Kaiser, remain almost unchanged compared to the previous year. Newly included in the Chancellor's budget are expenses for sports and volunteer work. The newly created office of Minister of State for Sport and Volunteering has 386.5 million euros at its disposal. There was a recommendation for a resolution from the Budget Committee and an addition to the budget committee's resolution recommendations for the individual plan. 324 MPs voted for the individual plan for the budget of the Federal Chancellor and the Federal Chancellery, 274 voted against it. There were no abstentions.
