Essential content

In a motion submitted, the AfD parliamentary group calls on the Bavarian state government to advocate for changes to the Atomic Energy Act at the federal level. The aim is to make the development and construction of new nuclear power plants in Germany possible again. This is particularly about so-called small modular reactors (SMR), which, according to the applicants, could contribute to securing a base-load energy supply. In addition, the state government should form a committee together with the energy industry that will develop possible operator and financing models for new nuclear reactors. As justification, the AfD refers to previous statements by Prime Minister Markus Söder, who was open to new nuclear technology, nuclear fusion and the use of nuclear waste as fuel. According to the applicants, these announcements have not yet been followed by any concrete political steps. Bavaria should therefore now actively campaign for a change in federal legal requirements. The emergency motion was rejected with 132 votes against. 30 MPs voted yes, there were no abstentions.
